Undeterred By "Tryin'" Flop, 50 Cent Signs On For More
He didn't exactly get rich or die trying last year, but aspiring rapper-actor 50 Cent isn't letting up on his Hollywood dream; he's set to star in not one, but three upcoming projects.
Universal Pictures has announced plans to make crime-world heist pic "Live Bet" into another starring vehicle for the man otherwise known as Curtis Jackson. Jackson's own G Unit Films (yes, you read that right) production wing will co-produce, ensuring some degree of quality control.
Before Mr. Cent can begin working on "Bet," he's got two more films in the works. "Home of the Brave," directed by Irwin Winkler ("The Net," "Life as a House") follows three soldiers who've recently returned from Iraq, and actually boasts a decent cast (OK, decent by The WB standards): Samuel L. Jackson, Christina Ricci, Jessica Biel, and Chad Michael Murray. Word has it 50 Cent flew to Morocco to film some of this scenes, so look for him in desert soldier-mode.
Also on Fiddy's slate is the boxing drama "The Dance," about a former prize fighter who volunteers as a boxing coach in the Louisiana prison system. The coach? Nic Cage. The fighter? We can only assume the one-time aspiring heavyweight 50 Cent will spend some time in the ring.

Ultimale069 writes: on May 10 2006 03:20 PM I refuse to see any movie starring any rapper. Why? Because they are not actors, they are rappers. Same goes for retarded models like Jessica Simpson and Paris Hilton. Will Smith is the exception to the rule, but hell, he was never a real rapper to begin with. (Reply to this) |

crazydiamond writes: on May 10 2006 11:07 PM #531547 in reply man most rappers who have went into film actually fair preety well and are'nt that terrible, mos def is da man, ludacris is impressive, ice cube has proven he can hold his own in boys in the hood and the Friday trilogy, T.I was decent in ATL, andrei 3000 is doin well, and even eminem was tolerable in 8 mile. so don't ignore a movie that features a rapper by just basing ur opinion on a performance from 50 cent. 5o cent is the hip hop anti christ man he's fuckin killin the industry... and i mean killin in a bad way not in slang term. He's single handedly brought rap back 10 years. (Reply to this) |

Ultimale069 writes: on May 11 2006 01:15 AM All I am saying is, there are people who go to school, learn the ropes of acting, actually respect the craft of acting, and these people get passed up for jobs, while rappers, solely on the basis of being famous and have a marketable name are offered tons of roles. Why should we settle with mediocre acting when we could have people who can do the job masterfully. As soon as we start expecting more of the movie industry, the sooner the studios will wisen up and give us better movies. On second thought, most of the movie industry will forever be retarded no matter what happens... (Reply to this) |

ck100 writes: on May 11 2006 09:27 AM In reply to this comment (#835517) I must agree with Ultimate069. I think it's a shame that a lot of these singers think that just because they can sing means they can act. If they really want to act, then they have to go through the same struggles that regular actors go through to learn the craft and get gigs. These movie studios really don't give a rat's behind if the singer can act or not, they only higher them because they have a marketable name and they add clout to a movie. Producers only higher some female singers because they look good in sexy clothes (Jessica Simpson, I'm looking in your direction). For every Cher, there is a Britney Spears or Jessica Simpson or Mariah Carey. And don't even get me started on Paris Hilton trying to "act". What's really amazing is that these singers, who have been critically-panned as actors, still get offered film roles despite being critically-panned. It's as if these people don't learn their lesson. crazydiamond writes: on May 11 2006 10:34 AM yes, singers or pop stars i agree for the most part are terrible and spoiled, btu rappers for the most part can hold it down. A lto of tiems these guys are casted for gang related movies, and why not, some of them have lived that type of life so playing that type of role comes naturally and some of the roles these rappers accept are perfect for their type of actign ability. Ice Cube in boys in tha hood for example, did a perfect job, Tupac in juice did a perfect job, ludacris in hustle and flow did a perfect job, mos def can do preety much anything. As long as their casted in the right type of roles then there totally believable and can totally pull it off. (Reply to this) |

ck100 writes: on May 11 2006 11:18 AM But I feel like they're kind of getting away with it in some way because they're being cast as rappers, drug dealers, etc. It's kind of like they're getting off easy because they're taking roles that are so close to who they were or they're persona. If they want to really impress me with their acting, they should do a role where they're cast against type. (Reply to this) |

lovelykeira writes: on May 11 2006 12:36 PM 50 cent sucks and I was really hoping that he would never make another movie again, Cage is awsome and if he's wise he'll drop out and have nothing to do with that movie. Home of the Brave could be interesting though, it does have some people I like involved with it like, Jackson, Winkler, and the very beautiful Biel. (Reply to this) |

dc00777 writes: on May 11 2006 08:01 PM While I detest 50 Cent, some singers can actually act. I know the odds arent well favored but look at Sinatra, Cher (say what you want she gave some of the best performances of the 80's), Bette Middler, Bjork and on occasion Queen Latifah. (Reply to this) |

aconline writes: on May 12 2006 08:23 AM Rappers not Actors Breakdown: Will Smith--good actor, he did have the Fresh Prince of Bel Air for years of Practice Ice-T--not bad on tv, Law and Order, but stay away from the bg screen Marky Mark--good actor Andre 3000--I like him, but not a great actor, but tolerable Ice Cube--Stop calling yourself that O'Shea. Has potential, but not quite there, yet. Queen Latifah--not a rapper, or actress Eminem--need to do another movie, he played a poor white kid who wanted to rap, that is what he was. 50 Cent-didnt see his movie, probably won't Nelly--terribel actor, good football moves though TI--i don't know who that is The Game--who? LL Cool J--stop calling yourself that, James Smith. It was cool in the 90's for a few months. Not a bad actor though, sometimes. Bottom line, I will watch Will Smith, Mark Wahlberg and James Smith, maybe Eminem, Andre Benjamin and O'Shea Jackson. (Reply to this) |
