IGN Peeps the "Eragon" Trailer
Reporting from the E3 game-fest, the IGN FilmForce guys bring word that the trailer for Fox 2000's "Eragon" is ... pretty impressive.
From IGNFF: "From this early look at the fantasy pic, it appears to be every bit as epic as the book. Adapted from the best-selling novel of the same name, Eragon tells the story of the titular young dragon rider and the sapphire dragon Saphira. The trailer contained only the briefest of glimpses of Saphira, right at the end—obviously Fox is saving surprises for further along in the process.
What the trailer really showcases is the sprawling environments, which are sure to make viewers recall that other fantasy epic Lord of the Rings. The outdoor sequences feature enormous, expansive backdrops reminiscent of the New Zealand countryside found in that trilogy."
--
Based on the best-selling fantasy novel by Christopher Paolini, "Eragon" stars John Malkovich, Jeremy Irons, Djimon Hounsou, Robert Carlyle, Sienna Guillory, and newcomer Edward Speleers in the title role. Fox has the movie penciled in for a December 15th release date.

synergyred writes: on May 13 2006 08:49 AM Actually Eragon will probably be very enjoyable. The books, for what they were, were fun, easy reads. Just ignore all of the similarities to Star Wars. Or at leasst try... (Reply to this) |

knowingtoast85 writes: on May 13 2006 04:17 PM I've heard terrible things about the books. Not to be facetious, but I noticed that the name "Eragon" is essentially "Dragon" with the first letter changed. I'm not sure how imaginative that is. Not to say that should reflect poorly on the rest of the books, but hey, I've heard bad things, so there. (Reply to this) |

dc00777 writes: on May 13 2006 08:03 PM All the reviews Ive read for the book have said it rips of Lord of the Rings. Shouldnt be suprissed since the author wrote it when he was 15, at that age all aspiring writers are ripping off other peoples work. (Reply to this) |

synergyred writes: on May 13 2006 08:49 PM No. It's not a rip off of Lord of the Rings. It's a rip off of Star Wars. Get your facts straight :) (Reply to this) |

haelohm writes: on May 14 2006 12:10 AM Shutup Unless you have read the books there is nothing you can say about this. The real reviews (NY Times, etc.) said this is an exciting read in the vein of Lord of the Rings. As for Eragon the name comes from one of the dragon riders from Anne Mcaphery's Dragon Riders series...his story is a continuation of the world she ended...these books are very good and entertaining and if you read them you would understand that. Bane Of Anubis writes: on May 14 2006 08:32 PM The real reviews... Uh oh, I smell a bit of pretension here... So he didn't rip off LOTR or SW, he ripped off AM. Good for him -- thinking outside the box. It'd be nice to have publishers for parents, wouldn't it? Oh well, hopefully it'll be entertaining. (Reply to this) |

soowhanee writes: on May 15 2006 12:08 AM i haven't read the books. but apparently the kid went from school to school, selling his eragon (the novel) to support his family, since he was 15, 16? someone help me out. i got the story right, just the details wrong. i hate rich brats who inherit literature and go to harvard and publish books instead of writing papers too, i'm just saying that that isn't the case for this one. haelohm writes: on May 15 2006 03:35 PM no... his parents are also writers and they started publishing the book under their own company until Knopf picked them up and gave them a distrubution deal.... (Reply to this) |

Also, Anne Mcaphery praised the books, so i dont c how he could have ripped her off. (Reply to this) |

randomidity writes: on Jul 17 2006 12:24 PM An Educated Rant Okay, this is being written by two people who have read the books several times and got so tired of all the bs we had to say something. A) the only similarity to Star Wars is that both Luke and Eragon are orphans... which isn't much. and yes I have watched Star Wars several times B)yes it is an epic fanasty and in the same genre as LOTR, but not a rip, almost all epic fantasy can be broken down to a basic level withouit much difference, which takes the soul out of a book C) it's not sci-fi D) it's not a rip of Anne McCaffrey, nor a continuation. Yes Eragon is a Dragon Rider, but he doesn't fight Thread and the dragons were NOT genetically engineered from firelizards. Yes we've read AM too. Also her books take place on PERN not Alagaesia. E) For those that say it's a rip from AM and SW: They do not contain elves or dwarves or magic. That is all, we hope you have learned something, and stop listening to rumors when you don't know anything about the subject that you write or speak of. (Reply to this) |
