Trailer Bulletin: Flushed Away
by Scott Weinberg | May 18, 2006

Aardman and DreamWorks combine to bring you "Flushed Away," which I believe marks the 11th movie this year in which animated animals do kooky things. But this one looks to have a little dry British wit, so maybe it won't be half bad. Check out the all-new trailer right here.

"Roddy is a decidedly upper-crust "society mouse" who lives the life of a beloved pet in a posh Kensington flat. When a sewer rat named Syd comes spewing out of the sink and decides he's hit the jackpot, Roddy schemes to rid himself of the pest by luring him into the "whirlpool." Syd may be an ignorant slob, but he's no fool, so it is Roddy who winds up being flushed away into the bustling sewer world of Ratropolis. There Roddy meets Rita, an enterprising scavenger who works the sewers in her faithful boat, the Jammy Dodger. Roddy immediately wants out, or rather, up; Rita wants to be paid for her trouble; and, speaking of trouble, the villainous Toad—who royally despises all rodents equally, making no distinction between mice and rats—wants them iced…literally. The Toad dispatches his two hapless hench-rats, Spike and Whitey, to get the job done. When they fail, the Toad has no choice but to send to France for his cousin—that dreaded mercenary, Le Frog."

Featuring the voices of Hugh Jackman, Andy Serkis, Kate Winslet, Ian McKellen, Jean Reno, and Bill Nighy, "Flushed Away" hits theaters on November 3rd.

Mmm... the animation doesn't look very good, but hopefully the script will make up for that. I'm sure it will, since it's an Aardman product.

It looks like they are trying to go for a claymation look without claymation. I guess because Wallace and Gromit took forvever to make, they decided to experiment with technology.

Solid cast. Let's just hope the script is as sound...

I might be the only person wishing animated movies would return to traditional methods (hand-drawn), or at least limit the use of CG. Most fare these days becomes horribly dated within a few years' time.
