Even MORE "X-Men" Spinoffs?
by Scott Weinberg | June 02, 2006
Discuss Article
We already know all about the upcoming "Wolverine" and "Magneto" movies, and now USA Today brings word on the possibility of a "Young X-Men" experiment AND an "Emma Frost" movie!

From USA Today: "The first spinoff will be Hugh Jackman's "Wolverine." His character has an as-yet-unrevealed back story in which researchers replaced his original bones with a metal skeleton. Jackman has signed on to star and co-produce, and "X-Men" producer Lauren Shuler Donner says it will likely head into production next year.

"We've also talked about doing something on the kids in (Professor X's) school, focusing on their lives, and less of a global adventure for the team," says Hutch Parker, production president of 20th Century Fox.

The studio is also exploring a movie with "Three Kings" director David O. Russell based on the character of Emma Frost, a sexy mutant telepath who can transform her skin into diamonds. She is an "X-Men" comics regular but was not featured in the movies.

Another likely solo project: "Magneto," also in the script phase. The film will focus on his youthful pre-villain days, Shuler Donner says."

Wouldn't a "young X-men" movie be too similar to the "Generation X" show that tanked a few years back?
Also, will Maverick and Sabretooth appear in the Wolverine prequel?

The wolverine movie is going to suck. They've already screwed with Sabertooth and Lady Deathstrike. What's left? Silver Samurai? Please.

I don't even want to think about what young x-men will be like.

I think a film from Russell about Emma Frost would be tight.

Make them and i'll watch them...especially the Emma Frost one.Hope they get a bombshell nobody-yet actress. The mainstream ones are not physically endowed as demanded by the character in the comics. =) How young would young X-men be? If it is a serious, emotionally hefty teen movie and no where as remotely similiar to its Disney-esque counterparts, then we got real winner on our hands. ( breakfast club? =)

agreed, but my money says russell would never do such a mainstream franchise movie, which is why he's so cool

why don't those stupid movie executives listen to me and make a Mystique prequel. She easily has the most interesting back story, Rebecca Romijn is fantastic in the part and the action is all style. I just can't get my head around why they would choose Emma Frost over her. Boring! it was bad enough that they shuffled Mystique off screen so early on in X3, let alone strip her of her powers. Oh, by the way, if u havent seen X3 yet, don't read the previous scentence.

When I read "Young X-Men", I immediately thought of Wolverine wearing diapers and laughed so hard I shot milk out my nose . . . which is strange because I was drinking orange juice . . . seriously, why on earth would you do something like that? You'd have to find someone who could write compelling young characters, and someone who has barely seen the world just isn't as compelling as these older characters to help place things in perspective.

As for Wolverine and Magneto movies, I think maybe we could finally see just what makes them tick, instead of hinting at tragic pasts. I've always wondered how Magneto survived the concentration camps, so that would be interesting to see. Would someone who may have ripped the gates off without using his hands be followed or feared? Could that be something that helped push Magneto to believe that humanity would always fear mutants, even when they are trying to save humanity? And we all know that Wolverine has enough ghosts in his closet besides Yuriko and Sabretooth. Besides, it's not like his five minutes of screen time "ruined" Sabretooth.

Wow, that turned into a thesis REALLY fast. Better stop to clean up the milk . . .

ug, let the really bad X-men spinoffs begin! Wolverine will be the only good spinoff while all the others will be horrible. They are going to milk the X-men franchise till its dry and leave its dead dried body on the side of the road. Why not just make some more good regular X-men films and not waste money and ultimatley kill the franchise by making crap! I don't get it they complain a fourth X-men would cost too much yet they're going to make countless numbers of spinoffs that won't come close to being as successful!

X-Men 4 - They should do an adaptation of "Age of
I think they should use this opportunity to do a movie adaptation of "The Age of Apocalypse." Since Magneto was pretty much responsible for Xaviers death, he could have a change of heart just like in the comic and take over the Xavier School for the gifted. You could keep Kitty Pryde, Colossus, Ice Man, Rogue and introduce Gambit and Syrin. Not sure what could be done about reversing the cure, but I'm sure something creative could be done. Then you could introduce Apocalypse and let all hell break loose.

didn't you see the scene with Magneto and the chess piece? the "cure" might be defective and possibly wear off, meaning Magneto's powers could come back.

Phhh. Prequels?

I'd rather they continue the X-men series. They ended the fourth film with a surprise at the end and the story really should continue. But hey, that's just me.

fourth film?

I don't think were gonna get another one, I guess a lot of the actors don't really have a wish to come back at this point. Of course that might change if the movie studio is willing to toss enough $$ at them.

Brett Ratner would be a lock to direct a fourth X-Men film, and for that reason alone I'm hoping the series ends with the third installment. It seems that Hugh Jackman has final say on the directorial choice for the Wolverine movie, so here's hoping that he has the good sense to politely refuse Ratner's services.

One can only imagine what X3 would have been like with Singer still at the helm. I would have liked to see an epic length film (2hr 45min or 3hr) that contained just as much action...but allowed for MUCH more character development. Ratner is a hack. X-fans deserved better than him. They deserved a director with an unabashed love of the comic and its characters, ala Raimi w/ Spiderman. The Marvel/20th Century Fox goons who decided it wasn't necessary to lock-up Singer for the third film in advance should be fired.

X4??!!
I would really prefer that they make antother X-Men film as opposed to a bunch of spin-offs's. We need Singer to come back and really make up for X3's somewhat persistent flaws! I wouldn't mind seeing a Wolverine movie..but come on an Emma Frost movie?! I do like the "White Queen" but they should introuduce here in a X-Men film before they just up and give her a movie. Also in the 4th film please bring back Nightcrawler..he was like the star of X2 and the didnt even explain what happend to him!! And for god sake get rid of that tragic Rouge charecter! I love Rouge in the comics, but in the movies she sucks more balls than Tom Cruise on a saturday night!! OH SNAP!
