Spielberg Getting "Warcraft"-y?
In what would be a match made in MMORPG/blockbuster heaven, Variety (via JoBlo) is reporting that Steven Spielberg will direct -- drum roll, please -- "World of Warcraft."
However, as JoBlo notes, the Oscar-winning helmer has a couple other things that may keep him busy for a while, including an Abe Lincoln biopic, a Kip Thorne-inspired sci-fi project, and an experimental art film called "Indiana Jones 4." So we'll see if this computer game adaptation hits the screen with Spielberg's mark on it. For more on the adaptation of "WOW," check out this interview with Blizzard COO Paul Sams at Adrenaline Vault.

sorjue writes: on Jun 19 2006 01:07 PM Spielberg? That hack.. Uwe Boll must be rolling in What? You mean Boll is still alive? Does he know someone other than him and that Anderson fellow is trying to do a video game movie? Tomorrow's headline "Boll challenges Spielberg to a boxing match for the rights to Wow and considers a fencing competition for the rights to Halo" Seriously though.. props to Blizzard for not giving this to Boll. Now I'm just waiting for a movie adaption of Star Wars Galaxies.. oh wait... (Reply to this) |

darcko writes: on Jun 19 2006 08:39 PM I haven't played WoW yet, but methinks Spielberg is a little envious of Jackson's success with the Rings trilogy... I don't know if he could pull it off though because as far as his adapted fantasy movies go (well, Hook), they're not that great. " Wha...............Damit, why is directing this instead of Halo?????" Because I'm hoping Cameron is gonna direct that >=( (Reply to this) |

renny2077 writes: on Jun 20 2006 04:49 AM Speilbery doing the WOW movie isn't a bad idea. Although, Blizzard's ideal director is Peter Jackson. Right now, they're having trouble getting a good script for the project. Most of what they got were of 'Boll' standard. Having a big name director directly involved in the project will definitely attract big name writers. Now, I really hope they get Weta Workshop involved in the project. (Reply to this) |

aconline writes: on Jun 20 2006 08:04 AM In reply to this comment (#838379) Well, that was the thought when they spent millions making Doom the movie. That flopped, and how many people play that game? Same thing goes for Final Fantasy the movie. Huge amount play the games, but no one can leave the gaming systems or their mother's basement to go see the movie. When will they learn. I have posted before, only 5 video game movies have made money. None directed by Boll, in case you were worried. These video game movies are a waste of money for the studios. It doesn't matter who is in them or who directs them or what video game it is. (Reply to this) |
