Maybe I saw a different Clerks, but I don't recall Dante and Randall being especially three dimensional, fleshed-out characters. They were indeed caricatures--and it was part of what lent the film its sense of carefree goofy fun. If this film succeeds, it will be because Kevin Smith has both crafted the script with the care that it needs, and restrained himself from taking the material too seriously. I hope for the best, but I don't expect too much. Smith hasn't exactly been on a roll lately. (Reply to this) |

I've been waiting for Clerks II since the 90's, and I cannot wait. The reviews have been glowing so far, which is nice. I hope the critics are right! (Reply to this) |

hellhole writes: on Jun 19 2006 07:32 PM In reply to this comment (#838403) I really like Kevin Smith, but I do consider him very overrated. Mallrats, Dogma, and J&S Strike Back all get more attention than they're worth, and Jersey Girl was a waste of everything. Clerks and Chasing Amy are the real gems in his collection. They both really show what he can do, both as a director and especially as a writer. If he can capture the same energy of what he accomplished with those two films, Clerks II will buck the odds and come out smelling like a rose. (Reply to this) |

South_park300 writes: on Jun 19 2006 09:00 PM Dogma and J&S Strike Back definately get a lot of attention (deservingly so in my opinion) but Mallrats? Many consider that Smith's worst movie, even with Jersey Girl! yeah, clerks is still my fave though. (Reply to this) |

Scott Weinberg writes: on Jun 20 2006 01:50 AM I've seen C2 (and was asked, prior to the screening, to hold my review until opening day, as usual) but I thought it was pretty darn good. Not up to snuff with the original flick or "Chasing Amy," but it made me laugh out loud 6 or 8 times, and that's good enough for me. (Reply to this) |
