In this week's news roundup, the rumor that Steven Spielberg is looking at possibly taking the helm of the movie adaptation of the popular online video game, "World of Warcraft," has been dispelled. Director Alex Proyas drops hints of a "Dark City" sequel, with fellow director Eli Roth ("Cabin Fever," Hostel") exposing his plans to make a "Hostel" sequel from the perspective of the fairer sex.In other news, the long overdue next collaboration of the Coreys, Haim and Feldman, is set to materialize; new episodes of "Futurama" are coming to Comedy Central; Lindsay Lohan starts a new celebrity feud; and Tom Cruise expects a lot from Katie Holmes. Read on for details.

This Week's Most Popular News:

It's A Bird! It's A Plane! It's a "Superman Returns" Tomatometer!
Yes indeed, "Superman Returns" has enough reviews by approved critics (six, and all Fresh) to have an Official Tomatometer -- and what a Tomatometer, at 100%. Even the Unofficial Tomatometer, counting all sneak reviews and unapproved critics, remains strong at 95% with 21 opinions counted.

Spielberg Getting "Warcraft"-y?
In what would be a match made in MMORPG/blockbuster heaven, Variety (via JoBlo) is reporting that Steven Spielberg will direct -- drum roll, please -- "World of Warcraft."
[Editor's note: The rumor has been proven false.]

Semi-Slick New "Spider-Man 3" Poster
Need just another drip of "Spidey 3" stuff to keep you going until next June? Then head on over to JoBlo's to see an all-new poster for the webslinger's second sequel.

A Return to "Dark City"?
Filmmaker Alex Proyas recently dropped a little message board hint that should soon overwhelm the moviegeek sites and cause all sorts of feverish chit-chat. The buzz is twofold: 1. Apparently there's a "Dark City" Special Edition DVD on the way from New Line, which isn't all that much of a shock, and 2. Might there be a "Dark City" SEQUEL?

"Hostel 2": The Girls' Turn
While squeezing in a quick appearance at the MTV Movie Awards, professional horror geek Eli Roth spilled some enticing new beans regarding his "Hostel" sequel ... and let's just say the follow-up breaks out a whole gender-reversal approach.

In Other News:

• Prolific producer Aaron Spelling dies at age 83 after suffering stroke.
• Thanks to strong DVD sales, and a resurgence in popularity on cable, Comedy Central has resurrected "Futurama" for a minimum of 13 new episodes to begin airing in 2008.
• '80's teen sensations Corey Feldman and Corey Haim will reunite for "The Coreys."
• Reese Witherspoon has filed suit against Star Magazine for publishing a false report that the actress was pregnant.
• Matthew McConaughey in talks for a two picture deal with New Line.
• Tom Cruise is so thrilled to be a father that he now wants to be a father of ten.
• Sean "Diddy" Combs is the latest recipient of a Lindsay Lohan outburst, as the two clashed during a recent performance by Prince at a New York club.
• Ridley Scott is set to direct the biopic of the Gucci family.
• Vin Diesel pulls out of the action-thriller "Black Water Transit."
• Sony is shopping the remake of the 1957 western "3:10 To Yuma" to other studios after Tom Cruise pulled out of the project last week.

dark city was a great film...what's wrong with a sequal. I had been anticipating one right after the first one finished.

next week theylll be sayin hes back on Wow, come on people they have been doin for months he has what at least 2 if not three movies to do before it so yeah its probably not going to happen because Wow is popular now and the movie isnt gona wait until its almost dead to come out (spielberg if hes doing Indy 4 next year and the Lincon biopic the next Wow wont even begin shooting until 2009. By then that game will be on its last legs if not totally replaced by Wow 2 or somthing.

Maybe because the first one was AWESOME?
You know, the fact that you apparently didn't like Dark City, but are excited about a movie based on a video game, should be enough to tell you that maybe it's time to move out of mom's basement. Just saying.

Personally, I loved the first Dark City, but I have to agree with "why?" regarding a sequel. There's no reason for one; the first movie is complete, self-contained and excellently done. Just because a movie is "AWESOME" does not necessarily warrant that a sequel be made. In fact, maybe that's all the better a reason not to make a sequel. All that said, if all the original cast and writers are on board, I'll admit I'd be intrigued, if not necessarily optimisitc.
