ANOTHER "Thunderball" Remake??
Movie producer Kevin McClory owns "some" of the rights to the old-school Bond classic "Thunderball," which explains why, several years ago, he was able to mount a Bond semi-remake called "Never Say Never Again" over at WB. Bond purists don't really consider it an actual part of the series, but hey, it brought Sean Connery back, so it can't be all bad. Anyway, looks like McClory is once again up to his old tricks.
From IGN FilmForce: "Despite a long court battle that MGM (now part of Sony) won against McClory – the purpose of which was to prevent him from starting his own rival Bond franchise – the rumor suggests that the producer is looking to move forward on a new remake of "Thunderball." As he did by hiring ex-007 Sean Connery to star in "Never Say Never Again," McClory is said to want to get Pierce Brosnan to reprise his role. Brosnan was famously dumped in favor of Daniel Craig, who stars in the forthcoming "Casino Royale."
IGNFF also debunks the rumor that a band called "Goldfrapp" is performing the "Casino Royale" tune. ("Goldfrapp"? Goofy name for a band...)

on Jul 01 2006 12:21 PM I have no problem with this, except I don't know why he wants to keep remaking Thunderball, sure it was probably one of the best Bond films but twice is enough. Remake some other one, or better yet come up with an entirely new idea, based on one of the books not done yet or better create an entirely new story! (Reply to this) |

He only has the rights to make Thunderball and nothing else. So if he's going to be remaking anything, that's pretty much his only option. (Reply to this) |

That kinda sucks then, another remake of Thunderball is just stupid unless they change the story up a little. Of course there are ways to get around it just change all the names then he can do whatever he wants. Get Brosan to play the lead just don't call him Bond, start a new franchise, of course he'd probably still get sued by MGM for some reason. (Reply to this) |

on Jul 03 2006 09:14 AM So when can you still call a remake a remake? Never Say Never Again and Thunderball share the same basic theme, but that's about it. They also share that theme with most other Bond films and, um... a whole bunch of other action flicks. By that line of reasoning it's still a remake as long as it involves a good guy, a bad guy, a babe and some stolen nukes. I could remake every other Bond movie that way, depending on where I place the accent of the story and the details I add ;) (Reply to this) |
