Paul W.S. Anderson Choosing Between "Death Race 3000" and "Castlevania"
Filmmaking partners Paul W.S. Anderson (director) and Jeremy Bolt (producer) look to have their hands pretty full these days. In addition to their "DOA: Dead or Alive," which was directed by Corey Yuen, the duo also have an interesting pair of projects coming up soon: a remake of Roger Corman's "Death Race 2000" and a big-screen adaptation of the original "Castlevania" video game.
According to IGN FilmForce, "Bolt insists that "Death Race" is now closer to happening than it ever has been before. "Paul came in and wrote a script, got it a lot closer, and I think we should be making an announcement in the next two or three weeks."
The producer also says the tone of the remake will differ from that of the original film. "We've basically taken the idea of reality television and extended it twenty years. So it's definitely a comment on society, and particularly reality television, but it is not as much a parody or a satire as the original. It's more straight."
And regarding the "Castlevania" flick: "Bolt says, "We're trying to do is integrate a Dracula origin story with "Castlevania," with the story of the Belmonts." Bolt added that the film will reference back to the earlier versions of the game, as well as the new incarnation of "Castlevania."
"There's a fair amount of references. We always try to give the fans something that respects their love of the game but also give them something completely new. So we've added a whole new spin to "Castlevania.""

SpikesInMySkull writes: on Jul 06 2006 06:05 AM I'm much rather see Deathrace and Castlevania combined into a single movie, written, directed, and produced by Uwe Boll... That would kick ass! I mean really... PWSA is just as bad as Uwe Boll, but with none of craptaculousciousness.... (Reply to this) |

SpikesInMySkull writes: on Jul 06 2006 06:30 AM Yeah... if your going to make Castlevania into a movie, you might ass well make Super Mario Brothe... oh wait... nevermind... Yeah, Castlevania is a fun game series, but not a very solid foundation for a movie... And as for Deathrace, while we're resurecting Coreman Sci-Fi crap-fests, why not whipped up a remake of "Battle Beyond the Stars"? We could get Kristin Loken (or whatever the hell her name is) to play that Valkyrie chick, and George Hamilton to play Space Cowboy... Man I'm retarded. I think I just crapped my pants. Prosper761 writes: on Jul 06 2006 07:12 AM Anderson and Bol should team up and co-direct "Sonic, the Hedgehog," starring Bill Murray as the voice of Sonic (seems he'll lend his voice to any CGI piece of crap, anyway). Kate Beckinsale could once again regale us with her complete lack of acting skills as the female lead. They could have Stephen Sommers write an over-blown script filled with all sorts of characters who have no buisness being in the same movie together. Then throw in pointless explosions, gratuitous CGI FX and screeching sound FX amped-up to "Bleeding Eardrums." A guaranteed blockbuster. (Reply to this) |

Posted 07/06/06 06:14:27 AM by Zen Bullet ***** Of course you would know these movies are terrible because you've climbed into your ego-fueled time machine and seen them already right? awag1 writes: on Jul 11 2006 04:06 PM I think its proof that hollywood is running out of original ideas when they look to video games for a movie. Sure, some games are worthy of such a treatment, but then you can't make one of those brilliant Games-based-off-the-movie game, because the movie is based off a game! There's no money in that!
