Kevin Smith Moonlights as a Film Critic, Sitting in for Ebert
by Scott Weinberg | July 27, 2006
Discuss Article
Richard Roeper will have a few guest hosts to work with while good ol' Roger Ebert recovers from recent surgery, and it looks like he'll have a fun time with episode #1. Writer/director/movie-geek Kevin Smith will be stopping by to share his thoughts on some new releases. (No, not "Clerks 2.")

From Smith's blog: "Looks like I’ll be sitting in for Roger Ebert next week, as a guest critic on "Ebert and Roeper." Kind of a cool honor, I feel. We’ll be checking out "Miami Vice," "Ant Bully," "Talladega Nights," "Barnyard" and maybe (fingers crossed) "World Trade Center." We’ll be taping next week, just prior to the Chicago WizardCon. I’ll let you know how it goes."

But there seems to have been a schedule switch, as mentioned by the man himself, at Hollywood Elsewhere:

"Yes, I was originally slated to review the flicks I'd listed, but due to a scheduling change, I'll be reviewing "World Trade Center," "Little Miss Sunshine," "Scoop," "Accepted," and "Step Up" instead."

Nice. Maybe Ebert will give Clerks 2 a thumbs up now.

As long as they are back to reviewing new movies I'm happy. I wish we were given info about who the other guest hosts will be. Hopefully all of them will be as surprising and clever (not to mention famous) a choice as Kevin Smith. And speaking of Smith, I would much rather see him review the films he originally listed than the updated list. Too Bad. So does this mean no "Miami Vice" and "...Ballad of Ricky Bobby" reviews? "Vice" opens this weekend, the new show won't air till next week and Smith is the first guest host but he's not reviewing it, so...??? Anyway, get well soon Roger and c'mon RT and give us a little more info outside of just Kevin Smith's involvment.

Yea I'm happy the show is finally back, get better soon Ebert. Smith's a sweet replacement I wonder what he'll think of World Trade Center, hopefully he likes it, I wish he was reviewing Miami Vice too though, I wonder who the other guest critics will be?

I like Smith... but I hope Ebert gets back/well soon. I don't know how it'll turn out but I'm kinda looking forward to it.
