Snake Plissken to "Escape from Earth"?

John Carpenter's "Escape from New York" is a true-blue cult classic among (male) movie fans of a certain age (old, like me), but the goofy follow-up, "Escape from L.A.," didn't exactly strike the same gold-mine. Fortunately it looks like Carpenter, Kurt Russell, and Paramount might be close to striking a deal for Part 3 -- which would be called "Escape from Earth."

From JoBlo's: "A major meeting was held at Paramount Thursday evening with both John Carpenter and Kurt Russell in attendance. The topic -- preparing for a third entry in the Snake Plissken chronicles entitled ESCAPE FROM EARTH. Apparently, Carpenter completed a script for the project eight years ago but the studio has now taken an interest in it after Russell demanded doing it before signing on with the studio for a three picture deal. Although the screenplay is being kept under tight wraps, I'm told by (another source) who was lucky enough to take a peek at the first thirteen pages that the script takes off immediately where the previous left off and features our planet en-route to Armageddon. It looks as though Carpenter will push-off the production of Psychopath with Titan Productions and collaborator Todd Farmer in order to ready this entry for a 2008 release."

i just rode my bicycle from laramie, wy to harrisburg, pa-- snake plissken style! i liked both escape flicks... just not the first time i watched them.... i recently caught the last 1/2 of escape from la and it's pretty good-- even if it does over-rely on digital effects... wow i bet those stunts were a lot cheaper and safer though....

i love the Snake Plissken character and the dystopian future the "Escape" movies portray. the first one is a classic. the second was fun (although the green screen effects looked cheap, but the film was made on the edge of the CG Revolution) but it was a pretty much a retread of the first film and had all the story beats of the first film - there's an impossible, world-threatening mission, an imprisoned Snake is blackmailed into taking the mission with the promise of freedom, Snake goes searching in an urban wasteland, encounters bizarre characters, gets captured, miraculously escapes capture, manages to get out and complete the mission, and pulls a final "switcheroo" to fuck over the people who blackmailed him into taking the mission. i hope they at least break from the formula this time.

The only person who can play Snake Plissken is Kurt Russell. Forget MEL GIBSON! I love Gibson, but what the F#@K are you talking about?! Besides, who said the movie has to take place DIRECTLY after "L.A."? It could be set years into the future, after the country has settled into the dark ages that were brought upon the world in the second movie.

Oh yeah, the rumor about "Escape from Earth" is FALSE anyway people. But that doesn't mean we can't still fantasize about a third installment.

If Snake escapes from Earth, that has to be the last movie in the series. He's escaped from everywhere else. Well, he never escaped from Boston, but that's no big deal...Roger Clemens has done that already. But that could still be a great movie...maybe Snake Plissken can escape from Boston on the Mass Pike, trying to get out of town using the Big Dig tunnels. THAT would be an interesting adventure.

I think Kevin Smith should be the helmer on this one. His action directing skills are not sharp, but Clerks 2 clearly proved he could direct a song and dance scene. Why not, in "Escape from Earth" put Snake in a song and dance scene? Let's say Snake has once again been implanted with something that will blow up in his veins or something. Instead of shutting it off at the last minute, he just does a little cardio in a song and dance number, and that burns it out of his system.

And also, all of Kevin's friends can be in the movie with Snake. Jen, Mewes, Harley Quinn, mom, Walt, Scott, Jason Lee, Benjamin Aflac...they can be survivors of a plague or something.

i think you should stay far away from the filmmaking industry.

and enough with the "implanting something inside Snake's body that will kill him in a set amount of time" angle. it's been done in both films, they need to ditch those things that made Escape from L.A. a near-copy of Escape from New York.
