bonoisgod writes: on Aug 16 2006 07:01 AM In reply to this comment (#842375) It looks like this was a trailer that might have been shown in a Japanese movie theater. The writiing basically explains the premise of the movie, and in a couple of places it talks about Academy Award winner Clint Eastwood and nominee Ken Watanabe. At another point, it points out the two protagonists, Japan and America, in one of the most devastating battles of all time. Alot of it is your standard movie cliche, heart wrenching, drama intensifying studio pablum, but there you have it. (Reply to this) |

Now it's dark writes: on Aug 16 2006 09:01 AM Pablum's the perfect word. Pablum/Propaganda. That famous flag raising was staged, btw. (Reply to this) |

bkkramb writes: on Aug 16 2006 09:24 AM In reply to this comment (#842377) NO You're completely wrong, and the book is called Flags of Our Fathers but it's one of the most accurate and well researched books on war that I've ever read. It's not propaganda at all if it is true. It's going to be a fantastic film. (Reply to this) |

aconline writes: on Aug 16 2006 09:41 AM EASTWOOD RULES I can't wait for these movies. I love Eastwood behind the camera. After Unforgiven, Mystic River, and Million Dollar Baby, you can't go wrong with this. I only worry about Paul Walker. He is so bad. When will Hollywood realize this? (Reply to this) |

nardoguz writes: on Aug 16 2006 09:48 AM flags the book is amazing and i encourage you all to give it a shot- I've been waiting for this movie for a long time- the photo was set-up, in fact. but that never took any validity away from the event. those japanese soldiers would rather kill themselves than be killed, as you will see in the film.- hell, johnny cash even has a song about one of the flag raisers "ballad of ira hayes" - clint cant go wrong (Reply to this) |

Reeven writes: on Aug 16 2006 10:08 AM Despite not being able to read the text, this film looks incredible. (Reply to this) |

Boss Fan writes: on Aug 16 2006 10:13 AM In reply to this comment (#842377) You Motherfuckers! So I just got done having to deal with a bunch of crackpot assholes on the WTC page who would rather cry conspiracy than talk about the movie and now I have to deal with it here?! God you people need an outlet for your screwed up mind set. Go join a debate team or something and stop shitting all over these movies that are only intended to honor and remember historical events. An Oliver Stone movie is one thing, but I'm not gonna let you bastards ruin a Clint Eastwood movie with a bunch of your wild nutjob theories. Get out of mommy's basement, pull off the tinfoil hats and get a damn life! Put all that conspiracy theory energy into something constructive. (Reply to this) |

elcid08 writes: on Aug 16 2006 10:25 AM In reply to this comment (#842377) Actually you are wrong,it wasnt staged, the photographer just got lucky with the shot...Heres a little history lesson, the first flag was raised on the mountain but was too small to see, to the general in charge sent another platoon up with a much larger flag to replace the smaller one. The flag raisers used a piece of piping they found and raised it, the photographer wasnt looking at the time they started raising it and just happend to turn as they were in the middle of it and snap the picture...The picrure of the first flag raising was the one that was staged and posed for, the second flag raising pic was just pure blind luck... unbreakable_samurai writes: on Aug 16 2006 10:55 AM I can hardly wait for both of these films. Amongst all the talking about Flags of Our Fathers, I never heard anyone mention who was cast in Red Sun, Black Sand but I was hoping that Watanabe would get the lead, and hell yes he's starring in it, so I am very happy with this news. (Reply to this) |

Now it's dark writes: on Aug 16 2006 11:19 AM In reply to this comment (#842382) Propaganda = Conspiracy? That's the dumbest thing I've heard since the twentieth century. Go back to watching Fox News. (Reply to this) |

Boss Fan writes: on Aug 16 2006 12:54 PM In reply to this comment (#842385) No, you insinuating that the film is a bunch of flag-waving propaganda is waht I have a problem with. It's the same thing as some idiot questioning 9/11 just cuz they are pissed off at our government or the current administration. Your lame-ass Fox News comment at the end of your post pretty much reinforces my point. I never said I was a flag-waving, Bush-loving, republican. I just said I'm sick and tired of movies like this coming out, only to have some asshole try to shit all over them with their stupid political hang-ups. Get it?! (Reply to this) |

dracus writes: on Aug 16 2006 12:59 PM Ever since Raging Bull lost to Ordinary People, Martin Scorsese seems to be cursed. His last movie, The Aviator, looked like a sure bet to win until Clint Eastwood brought out Million Dollar Baby. Now this year, his movie The Departed will have to go up against not one, but two likely best picture nominations from Eastwood. Talk about poor timing! Regardless of what else comes this year, the Academy Awards will be interesting. (Reply to this) |

Boss Fan writes: on Aug 16 2006 01:41 PM Not Paul Walker BTW. No need to worry about Paul Walker. He is not in this (at least not "Flags") It is an actor named Benjamin Walker (no relation). And, in Paul's defense (though I'm no fan), he showed some range, or at least a very different side of himself, in the little seen "Running Scared." Definitly better than what most would expect from the evidence submitted by "Fast and the Furious," "Into the Blue" and the like. (Reply to this) |

Boss Fan writes: on Aug 16 2006 04:34 PM In reply to this comment (#842396) Not that anyone asked you, but being the smarty you obviously think you are, if you knew how to spell you'd see that throughout four posts the only spelling error I made was transposing the 'h' and 'a' in the word 'what.' Grammar is pretty perfect too (outside of maybe using a comma here and there, but this is just a chat room, pal). Unless you're referring to things like "cuz," which is shorthand computer speak, incase you are too advanced to grasp it was intentionally spelled that way. As far as the vulgarities, I'll lose a lot of sleep tonight over all the hurt feelings I may have caused a couple of douche bags like you two. Guess that makes me a redneck though. Pffft. UNTDrew writes: on Aug 16 2006 05:22 PM In reply to this comment (#842397) Dude, chill the hell out! I don't see anyone bagging on this movie. Before you go lashing out at me now, realize that we're not your enemy. You got on here after fighting it out on some other board you mentioned and then took it out on everyone here. For the most part, everyone has said they are real excited about the movie from what I've seen... me included. I never miss a Clint Eastwood movie myself, and WWII is by far my favorite historic even to study. This is a match made in heaven with Eastwood and a WWII film. Anyway, life's too short to worry about all the n00bs and 14-year-olds on an internet message board. Some people just like to debate, and that's fine, you don't have to get involved. However, name-calling only makes you one of them. (Reply to this) |

Boss Fan writes: on Aug 16 2006 05:59 PM In reply to this comment (#842402) Agreed. I was being preemptive before this turned into that kind of board. But I wasn’t taking anything out on "all" the posters here, just the one that started shunning the movie for being “propaganda.” It just gets old having politics play into everything now-a-days. Keep in mind you can never go back to the homeland. --- Never forget The heroes on Iwojima --- Japan and United States --- Each country’s story --- Academy award director Clint Eastwood --- The flags of our fathers Premiere Oct-28/2006 --- Letters from Iwojima Premiere Dec-9/2006 (Reply to this) |

roco133 writes: on Oct 25 2006 11:28 PM rumors There has been a bit of speculation (meaning i read it on IMDB) that Eastwood and the good people of the Tokyo International Film Festival are trying to push up 'Letters' release deate in the U.S. to THIS year (maybe same release as in Japan) to try to get one of the lead actors an oscar that everyone thinks he will get. It's in a thread on IMDB, but I don't see it any where over here. They got it from an article... that i should probably just read. anyway, anyone got news? btw, saw Flags and i think it's second best of the year, second to Departed and just above Babel. -[RoCO] (Reply to this) |
