"Last House" is Next Remake
Who can name all the horror remakes that have hit the screens over the past five years? Not the J-horror-type ones, but the "re-imaginings" of classics (and not-so-classics) of the '70s and '80s. Well, here's another one: Get ready for a remake of Wes Craven's "Last House on the Left."
Now, having just watched last year's woefully awful "Chaos," I simply can't imagine why we'd need another new take on the rape & revenge chiller "Last House on the Left," but here's what Variety has to say:
"Rogue Pictures has closed a deal to remake "The Last House on the Left," the 1972 horror film that started Wes Craven's career. Craven, who wrote and directed the original, will produce the remake with longtime partner Marianne Maddalena and Sean S. Cunningham ... Craven and Rogue are eyeing an early 2007 start date.
Rogue will retain worldwide rights for the redo, which follows the same storyline. A pair of adventurous teen girls are kidnapped, raped and murdered by a gang of thugs. The killers unwittingly hole up in the home of one victim's parents, who, upon realizing what their guests did, devise gruesome revenge."
Sigh.

on Aug 17 2006 07:19 AM Creativity and originality are officially dead in Hollywood. I'd call for a boycott, but it wouldn't do any good. (Reply to this) |

on Aug 17 2006 08:02 AM This is a shame, and even though Wes has been a sell-out for years, this finalizes it. (Reply to this) |

on Aug 17 2006 08:10 AM What does that leave for Craven? Remaking NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET? The SCREAM films? I guess the whores in Hollywood are not just women. Take the cash and run Wes... (Reply to this) |

on Aug 17 2006 08:23 AM Both the original Last House on the Left, and The Hills Have Eyes were terrible movies. I don't mind they are being remade. I know people consider them classics, and i am sure people will hate on my opinion, but oh well. The Hills Have Eyes remake was the rare remake that was better than the original. Depending on who they get to direct the Last House remake, it could very well be better as well. (Reply to this) |

on Aug 17 2006 09:00 AM I just hope they leave in the biting off the penis scene. A true classic. (Reply to this) |

on Aug 17 2006 09:15 AM In reply to this comment (#842485) Yep...especially after hearing Craven's DVD commentary where he all but regrets making the original. Why is he so desperate to fit in now? Does he really have that many bills? (Reply to this) |

on Aug 17 2006 09:17 AM What took so long? The only thing the least bit shocking about the horror genre anymore is gall of studio execs to ressurect classic films only to dumb them down for an increasingly gullible public. "Snuff" remake anyone? (Reply to this) |

on Aug 17 2006 02:02 PM to south_park300 i can agree with u on saying the origional hills have eyes sucked. but not the last house on the left. that movie was amazing. i really enjoy the sadisticness that they had in cinema back then. do i agree on remaking it no, but will i see it, yes. the thing is people love to be scared, so reguardless it will make money. i only hope that the m.p.a.a. doesnt fuck this one up and take all the good shit out of it, such as the gutting scene, or the rape/carving name on chest scene. its a great movie. wes craven is a sped. i love most of his work, but he needs to know when to stop. his last origional film sucked ass "cursed". and he needs to stop being an oxi-moron. he always says how they shouldnt remake his films, but then again he is always part of the remake in some way. stop the remakes, it irritates everyone! on Aug 17 2006 02:48 PM horrorfan: he made red eye, which wasnt too bad. i guess it really isnt horror though. i stand by my word on the original Last House. but oh well (Reply to this) |
![]() on Aug 17 2006 07:48 PM I saw the Last House on the Left recently and truthfully, I hated it. Had I known that the main characters would bite it, I would not have wasted my time on it at all. The fact that the parents become all sadistic had no redeeming quality what-so-ever as they were down on the same level as those who murdered their child. Needless to say, the film did not deliver. And since I know that the remake is set to follow the same story line...I will avoid watching that one too. (Reply to this) |

on Aug 21 2006 12:56 PM I think Wes should remake his Swamp Thing film. It would have to be much better than Man-Thing. (Reply to this) |
