"Transformers" Concept Art: Megatron Redux?
by Jen Yamato | August 25, 2006
Discuss Article
Since a week can't go by without some tidbit of "Transformers" news, check out a few "possible concept images" of Decepticon leader Megatron from the toymakers at Hasbro. By the looks of it, the big fella's getting some major 21st century upgrades.

At "Transformers" fansite Seibertron.com (where they're already counting down the 312 days until Michael Bay's live-action pic hits theaters next July), you can view a few shots of a potential Megatron official movie action figure, in which the menacing baddie looks super shiny, metallic, and a little bit "Alien"-ish.

The concept art looks pretty cool, but it's definitely not your grandpa's Megatron, circa 1984. I still can't get over how the gigantic guy turns into a gun, but whatever.

"Transformers" will bring its interplanetary robot war into theaters July 4, 2007.

Hopefully these are all fakes -- please let this not have any semblance of reality

C'mon... they look like they are doing a good job of reimagining them in a darker, more vicious, steroid-enhanced way. Would you just want another rendering of the cartoon versions? That would be a little too colorful and playful to really make for a true kick-ass blockbuster.

That is the dumbest thing I have ever seen. What part of "transformers" does the creator of that lump of crap not get? There's no way that's a possible concept for the movie.

"Well yes, we've redesigned Megatron, so he can change from a spiky lump of crap into a spiky robot lump of crap."

Wow, cool. Next time maybe they could actually make the fake picture look like 'something'.

honestly, what was wrong with the original megatron? from what i gather, this thing doesn't even turn into a gun like the original, looks like he becomes an "alien jet" judging by the last picture set. well, at least with bay at the helm, megatron's explosive death will be really spectacular. imagine the sort of shrapnel the spikes can make, that's gotta be something to look forward to!

Michael Bay must die!

Course, I've thought that well before I even saw these god-awful concept art pix, so perhaps I'm biased.

i'll tell you what he looks like
he looks like a shinier version of that ooze guy from the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie. especially that standard face one. wasn't that christopher lloyd? man he was purple.

i don't mind a revamp, but all that cruddy "cool looking metal things" is pretty crappy. they ought to simple him up, and give him that smoothed out look.

This... this is just stupid.

His face is a mechanical butt. No, seriously. Look at it.

I had some faith that this could turn out good, but that killed it. It's not even close to similar to the original, it has way too many dumb spikes, and why the hell does he turn into an 'alien jet?' Jet = Starscream, not mechanical buttface man.

Sorry Michael Bay, you just lost what little faith I have. Dont' be surprised when it bombs.

Oh, and to the second poster... it's beyond obvious you work with or for the company producing this. NO ONE CAN POSSIBLY THINK THIS IS A GOOD IDEA! NO ONE!

Well, it's pretty plain to see that they aren't making this movie for the fans...which means....it's being made for MONEY!? *gasp*..it's gonna blow.

Megatron can never get a hug in this design. It would be too painful for others.
I think that all the Transformers should talk things through, instead of just hurting each other. What do you say ?

Seriously now...
...that's too absurd to be real. I don't even care about Transformers, but this is just ridiculous. If they're gonna make it all far out looking the could at least make it look cool, that's just an artist sketch. Whoever drew that can't possibly think it looks good. (not to discredit the skill of the artist)

I just checked out Bay's blog and seems to me this isn't Megatron at all but Starscream. I think that's explains the 'Alien Jet' mode in the concept art.

It is too expensive.
I do not believe hasbro will accept this because it is way to expensive to be reproduce as a toy. From the pictures, I believe the structures are too complex and makes it hard to reproduce as an action figuring. Sure it is easy to turn anything into an action figure, but the essential goal of a toymaker is massive producing it to a point where it is affordable to the consumer public. If every one examines the figure carefully, it has way too many little parts and reproducing it would take a lot of labor hours. Why does this matter to the final product of the movie? All of you guys are forgetting the fact that transformers is exxentially a big toy commercial for hasbro. If hasbro can not turn every character of the movie into actionfigures, there is no way it is going to finance the movie.

Alien jet? Aren't transformers supposed to be "robots in disguise"? I'm pretty sure if I saw an alien jet I'd think something crazy was going on. Not a very good disguise Megatron...same with you Michael Bay, you're not doing a very good job of disguising yourself as a not bad director.

Oh my god, this looks amazing!!! I just might go see it just because of this awesome new Megatron! Michael Bay is the greatest director ever, fuck Peter Jackson, Steven Speilberg and this James Cameron fellow. This will win the acadamy award for greatest movie ever! Now Bad Boys 2 will finally have some competition.

The sarcasm-o-meter is at 100% right now, so you can go change your pants
