Get Ready for "The Sarah Connor Chronicles"
by Scott Weinberg | August 29, 2006
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Yep, apparently that's what they'll be calling the all-new "Terminator" TV series -- and I'd probably be a whole lot more skeptical about this project were it not for the involvement of director David Nutter and screenwriter Josh Friedman.

From Variety: "Warner Bros. TV has set David Nutter to direct the pilot for "The Sarah Connor Chronicles," prompting Fox Broadcasting to officially greenlight production on the "Terminator"-themed project.

Nutter, whose last 12 pilots have all been picked up to series, also will serve as exec producer. Andy Vajna and Mario Kassar's C2 Pictures, which produced the most recent "Terminator" feature, is producing with Warner Bros. TV. Fox made a put pilot commitment to "Connor" last fall (Daily Variety, Nov. 10), picking up the script from exec producer Josh Friedman ("War of the Worlds"). Kassar and Vajna will also exec produce.

As outlined in Friedman's script, new installment in the "Terminator" franchise revolves around robo-warrior Connor and her savior son, John Connor. C2 senior veepee of development James Middleton, who's a producer on the project, said last fall that "Connor" will explore what happened to Sarah Connor after the end of "T2," when the character went on the run."

(Someone please explain to me how it's easier to type "veepee" than "VP.")

Pilot episodes directed by Mr. Nutter include those for "Supernatural," "Jack & Bobby," "Without a Trace," "Smallville," "Dark Angel," and "Roswell."

Could be good, although the title "The Sarah Connor Chronicles" is kinda silly.

I'm more interested in T4..ya know, finally getting to the actual war, than I am this. Sarah Conner is dead, so who cares? She wasn't that interesting of a character anyway, not enough to merit her own show anywho.

I wonder what Jim Cameron has said about all this.

"She wasn't that interesting of a character anyway, not enough to merit her own show anywho."

You're kidding, right?? She and her son gave the movie series (at least the first two) depth and substance. Without her, the movies would've been nothing but shoot-'em-up CG orgies (i.e., T3).

I would also rather a non-stop action packed T4 rather than " A trip to Mexico starring Sarah Connor "

The show should have a million flashbacks to bring any life to it at all if they want to add a Terminator that is.

I can see the opening thought now , " I drove all the way to Mexico , it was getting hot , but not as hot as the thought of another looming war ...bla bla and future as we make it ....bla bla ... WB IS THE REAL VIRUS !! It HAS TO BE SHUT DOWN !!! "

Cancelled .

So who is playing Sarah? That seems like the most blatantly missing question. I assume it won't be Linda Hamilton. Anybody have access to the complete article?

I'm not kidding. I never liked her. In the first she was whiney and "what's gonig on" (its understandable of course, but still, annoying). The interesting thing to me there was the unrelenting Terminator, and the fact that her future son sent his father to go back in time and bang her so he would be born and lead the humans in the future. T2 Sarah became more interesting, but she was overshadowed again by the Terminator and John and their relationship. I only saw T3 once, but from what I remember I actually liked that one the best, and, holy cow, she wasn't in it! Terminator 1, 2, and 3 are backstory for the war of the future and how it came to be (a la T4). There's no point to have MORE back story that doesn't even effect the long plotline, because it's already been touched on; some things just don't need to be explained..especially when there is still so much more to tell in the Terminator universe/story. She died, move on.

We don't need to know how Sarah died because it doesn't serve any purpose, the whole series has really been about John, she simply paved the way for him. Really if anything this is like Star Wars. For years everyone thought that it was all about Luke, but then the prequels come and, holy cow the saga is really about Vader!? Luke is like a Sarah Conner, getting the main character where he/she needs to be to do what he/she is meant to do. Remember, the main character doesn't always need to have the most screen time ;) .

We know she was tough and was instructing John how to be, and through that she must have instilled some of that 'wisdom' into John and that it better serves him in the future. So, to me anyways, she's served her purpose by getting John to where he needed to be, and I still don't believe that a show should be based off her, because like I said, in T3 she's dead, so obviously she isn't really needed anymore...if anything they should just make the show the war, then they could actually show it instead of cramming it in a 2 hour movie.

Don't be ridiculous. The main character of Star Wars was R2-D2.
:)

But seriously, the first two movies mop the floor with T3. It was lots of pseudo-intellectual concept with mediocre storytelling - like the Matrix sequels. The cinematic equivalent of two teens staring up at the night sky... "The universe is so huge it, like, doesn't even care about us. We're, like, a teardrop in the ocean..." "Dude... that is sooo deep."

Like I said, I only saw T3 once...for me (from my recollection) its a battle between T2 and T3, but I had an inside joke with people with T3 when Arnold was 'shopping' in that gas station stop...we'd say stuff like "Welcome to shopping with Arnold. Take this, and this, AND THESE!" etc. etc. (obviously in Arnold accents heh)...it amused me, and I remember liking how it ended; other than that I probably can't help but say I'll take your word for it until I check it out again....but my comments stand, this show shouldn't be happening.

Correction this sounds good in fact it may be the next big Fox TV show and if they know what's good for 'em they won't get rid of this like they did The OC.
