I was among the initially-skeptical and eventually-impressed who actually really liked Marcus Nispel's "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" remake. Do I think it's even remotely as effective as Tobe Hooper's original? Heck no, but it was a pretty intense horror flick all the same. And now that I'm freshly skeptical for the upcoming prequel...

Directed by Jonathan Liebesman ("Darkness Falls," hence my skepticism) and starring Jordana Brewster, Taylor Handley, Matthew Bomer, and Diora Baird. Oh, and of course: R. Lee Ermey and Andrew Bryniarski.

Im surprised not many liked the remake. No one-liners, creepy narrative, creepy charactors, creepy house, and good acting (yes, heaven forbid, good acting), I thought the movie rocked. Who cares about who produced it, I bet if (a big IF)it was steven spielberg everybody would praise the film. The director did an awesome job

Nothing will compare to TCM 1& 2. These remakes are sad. When the heck did this Sheriff come into play? I'll pass....again.

I thought the remake was pretty good, and yea I liked it more than the original. So I'll give this one a chance, plus I like Ermey, and Brewster.

I didn't like 2 and I actually liked the remake more (but I wasn't alive when the original came out so it doesn't hold a place in my heart) and as long as this has Lee Ermey being the foul mouthed yeller he always is, I'll be there. Ermey ruled the remake

The moment I heard Liebesman was the director, I lost all faith in this movie. I thought Darkness Falls was one of the worst horror films to get a major release.

Not sure why people like the original Texas Chainsaw Mass. so much , have any of you actually watched it recently ? It's terrible , too dark , hard to see anything that's going on , the remake is better -- but still just an average little movie that they should not have tried to feed us the - based on a true story -crap .

the original is now on a remastered dvd and has enhanced coloration so its not as dark, but still, its one of the greatest horror movies.

and im not so sure the origionals "based on a true story" thing was right. the remakes "inspired by a true story" was much better because the real guy didnt use a chainsaw or hooks or live with his family or work as a butcher.

anyway i believe this movie will be awesome, in fangoria Jordana Brewster said that they didnt go light on the gore at all. im excited for it.

the director even said that his darkness falls movie sucked, so he obviously worked hard on this one to get a good directing status, after his mistake with his previous film.

The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre is one of the greatest horror movies of all time. Still scares people, no matter how much they don't like the movie. The remake was mediocre and utilized a bunch of Hollywood lighting cliches like light beaming through cracks in the floor, over exposed sunlight, everything having a single golden, unrealistic color scheme. It was ok, but wasn't scary at all. It resembled a thriller more than horror. The only reason it was entertaining was because it had a couple of disturbing moments (the beginning scene with the girl blowing her brains out, R. Lee Ermey) and, of course, it had Leatherface. But even Leatherface wasn't scary. He looked like a leather-faced clown. Now they're making a prequel that explains where the girl from the beginning of the remake came from. BORING. Just like anyone who isn't fascinated by everything made in their own generation, I'll keep watching the original masterpiece and I'll pass on this Hollywood crap.

So, how is that retarded drill seargent sheriff gonna play a younger version of himself? Or will he be replaced by a younger actor? Maybe they should have put make up on him in the current remake to show that evil has warped his face, that way he can lose the make up for the prequel and look like a younger version. Then, he can get into a fight where lightening hits him in the face thus creating the way he looks in the current film. Actually, that would be stupid.

In the tradition of Looney Tunes, Scooby doo, and the Muppets; they should just call it THE TINY TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: BABIES

I too did not see the original during its first run in theatres, so I don't have the same attachment to it as I do other older "horror" flicks (Nightmare on Elm St, Halloween), but when I did see it I found it more comical than scary. Its very possible that is due to being desensitized to anything without the gore of Saw or the remake of Massacre. I thought the remake was substancially better than most other remakes that have come out in recent years. We have to face the fact that Saw has changed the Horror genre as a whole and this is what we are left with. I saw the trailer for "the beginning" when I saw Crank and I got sort of excited for its release. I will give it a shot, but I am not expecting anything great. I'll wait for greatness until Halloween 2007 (saw 3).
