Solid Cast for John Woo's New "Battle"
John Woo is settling in on the early stages of his next moviie, "The Battle of Red Cliff," an epic story based on the beloved Chinese novel "Romance of the Three Kingdoms." And he's got a pretty solid cast so far!
From Variety & IGN FilmForce: "The uber-action director has cast Chow Yun-Fat, Ken Watanabe and Tony Leung Chiu-Wai. Taiwanese supermodel Lin Chi-Ling will also co-star in the film.
"Red Cliff" is an adaptation of the classic Chinese novel entitled "Romance of the Three Kingdoms." The story takes place during China's Three Kingdoms in the year 208 during the final days of the Han Dynasty.
The epic battle of Red Cliff, which is said to have had some 1 million soldiers, will be shot by six separate units appointed by Woo, each one often shooting simultaneously. "The Battle of Red Cliff" is being written by Wang Hui-ling, who most famously penned Ang Lee's classic, "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon."

on Sep 05 2006 09:03 PM In reply to this comment (#843690) YEAH! I've been asking for a while now what the hell is up with that. Wasn't it like 2 years ago now that he mentioned that?! I thought from the get go it would be hard to cast, but if they could pull that off, the possibilities seemed endless. I was looking forward to a dark, rootsy adaptation, LOTR-style (only way more action, natch). Bring it on Woo! (Reply to this) |

on Sep 05 2006 10:28 PM 50 million us dollars the projected budget on this bad boy is 50 million us. Man, if this movie does make a ton on money in the chinese market and make a box office splash in north america, john woo would probably be filing for retirement after this. (Reply to this) |
