Warner Brothers Cancels 3D "Happy Feet"
It was reported today that Warner Brothers has canned their 3D IMAX version of the tap-dancing penguin animated comedy "Happy Feet" for unknown reasons. IMAX Corporation had announced last October that the 3D version of the film would be released, however that is no longer the case. A 2D IMAX version of the film will still be released, but Warner Brothers has cancelled the 3D version.
"Happy Feet" features the voices of Robin Williams, Elijah Wood, Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman, Brittany Murphy, and Hugo Weaving all as penguins in a comical adventure about a tap dancing penguin named Mumble. The 3D trailer for the 3D IMAX version already showed in front of "Superman Returns" 3D earlier this year. The full 2D versions of "Happy Feet" will be in theaters nationwide on November 17th.

on Sep 06 2006 06:07 PM You would think that they were making silly CGD movies such as this one about cute little penguins for children and not adults. What's wrong with these Hollywood types? Are they mental? Wait just a minute here! I have a happy little eight year old daughter who happens to love CGD movies, penguins, dancing and popcorn. Sounds like a nice Saturday afternoon date! Damn you Hollywood for making family movies!!! (Reply to this) |

on Sep 06 2006 07:08 PM This is an Australian film, though. By George Miller, who once upon a time directed the Mad Max films!! I've seen the trialers many times - still can't get interested. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Sep 06 2006 09:17 PM I think it's great that we get a new CG kids movie every week. But why don't we get toys and fast food tie-ins anymore? Guess that's the price we pay for quality. (Reply to this) |

![]() on Sep 10 2006 04:07 PM I really want to see the damn sillly, fuzzy, cuddly penguins. Why? Because I really like penguins. They're a really cool species. The jokes are ok, the computer generated imagery is decent and although the story seems like it's been taken straight out of an "organic night out" (if you know what I mean), It's deliciously crazy enough to work, specially if you're interested in the damn silly, fuzzy, cuddly penguins to begin with. I was somewhat dissapointed that they wouldn't realease it in 3D format, after watching "monster house 3d", which was a crazy experience to say the least. Yeah, the date and story were a little off, halloween being the perfect release date, and the story a little too streched out, however, still both of high quality. I'd say, if you hate ants, don't watch antz. If you hate bugs, don't watch a bug's life. if you hate penguins, stay away from the march of the penguins and happy feet, however if you like this type of childish shananigans and you can enjoy yourself while watching a singing "matador" of a penguin... go right ahead. I figure (and this is my personal opinion) if critics went after movies they liked, rather than flix they're going to hate (why would any respectable critic even show up to a jack-ass 2 screening?) they'd be more liked by people in general, and they'd live a much-less sour life altogether.
