It was pretty decent up until half way through when i guess the creative team decided to see if it was possible to make someones brain explode by forcing them to try to make sense of whatever bullshit they made up in the end (Reply to this) |

Noneofyourbusiness writes: on Sep 13 2006 11:02 AM In reply to this comment (#844190) Come on... What!?! The second half of the series is what separated Evangelion from the hundreds of other "boy pilots big robot, saves world" anime and manga storylines! The entire point of the series wasn't the robots and angels--their plot line was secondary--it was the characters themselves and their perceptions and relationships to themselves and one another (hence, ep.25-26). Sadly, most people didn't see this at first and demanded a generic "giant robot" ending with lots of action and answers. This is where the two-part movie comes in and where Hideaki Anno (the director of the series) gives these fans a big "f-you!" and does basically the same thing. So if you want to complain about not getting the second half, that's fine--Evangelion's not for everyone and there are a ton of other decent and crap giant robot series out there that don't require the viewer to think much at all. Just don't go around labeling it "bull****" just because you haven't made sense of it yet. Unless you're talking about all of the benign references to Christianity and its ancient mythology. THEN I'd definitely be willing to cut you some slack. (Reply to this) |

First: QUOTE First of Four Evangelion Movies due out Summer ---- Ac While the new story will be set during the same time frame as the original TV series, Newtype states that it will be an entirely new project, not be a remake or improvement of any sort. Newtype also mentions that viewers will not need to have already seen previous Evangelion material in order to understand and enjoy the new movies. Hideaki Anno will write the scenario for the first movie and will be the general director and manager for the entire project. Kazuya Tsurumaki will direct the movies while Yoshiyuki Sadamoto will provide character designs and Ikuto Yamashita will provide mechanical designs. Shinji Higuchi will provide storyboards for the first movie. Khara, a new studio that shares office space with Gainax, was recently set up and is seeking production staff to work on Anno's new project. SOURCE: O Hideaki Anno, and others from Studio Gainax who were responsible for creating Evangelion in 1995 are creating new Evangelion after more than a decade. The new project is called Evangelion Shin Gekijou Ban, or "Evangelion New Theatrical Version". This information comes from the September issue of NewType Japan, which was leaked prior to its weekend release. Fan translation has revealed that the project's general supervisor is Hideaki Anno, who you know as the original Evangelion's creator, writer, director, and more. Directing will be Kazuya Tsurumaki, who served as assitant director to Anno on the original production. Also returning are Yoshiyuki Sadamoto as character designer, and Ikuto Yamashita as mecha designer. As for the series' content, it is somewhat vague and speculative at this point. Before, it was suggested that the first three films would be edited from the original series, and the fourth would be new. But now it has been described as not a continuation, not a remake, but a new story. One does not need to have seen Evangelion before, but there is still new substance for the old fans. It has also been stated as being free of incomprehensible dialogue and plot. It has been suggested as including new locations and characters, but we won't know just yet. When this will begin hitting theaters is somewhat unclear, as I've heard both Summer 2007 and Spring 2008 for the first part. We'll just have to wait for details to solidify in the future. Bottom line is that Evangellion is a truly perfect series with very compelling caracters, and all they really should do is re-do the art. make it look more new. you know, make it look "Fullmetal Alchemist Good". and change Shinji's voice actor for the dubb. He make him sound like a whiny bitch. (Reply to this) |

So maybe i AM jumping the gun a bit here, but still, from what i remember it was just fuckign crazy. The religious bits didn't help much either. Niether did Shinji beating off on top of a dead girl? Noneofyourbusiness writes: on Sep 13 2006 05:26 PM In reply to this comment (#844195) Ahh, completely understood. Yeah, the religious stuff can get a bit overwhelming, but all of that and the "battle to save the planet" stuff is all essentially a smokescreen, so don't worry if it didn't make sense--it's all secondary and a bit arbitrary (but interesting nonetheless). And watching this when you're just 12 will definitely screw with your head. I was 16 when I saw the series for the first time and it definitely f***ed with my head too. Don't know how old you are now, but if you've had at least some really basic intro philosophy, it's absolutely worth your time to take another look. Oh, and the bit about Shinji beating off over a dead girl is from the movies (the big "f-you" from the director) and the girl was just catatonic. Not that it helps that much though...
