Someone Wants to Make "Miami Vice 2"?
by Scott Weinberg | September 20, 2006
Discuss Article | Blog Article | Email To A Friend
Critics didn't really dig the flick, and the box office was notably lower than anticipated -- but now comes some rather flimsy gossip that might make you chuckle. Allegedly, Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx are really itching to do a "Miami Vice" sequel.

From IGN FilmForce: "Despite the critical lashing and disappointing $63 million box office gross (it's made $79 million overseas) for director Michael Mann's "Miami Vice," that hasn't stopped the film's leads, Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx, from wanting a sequel.

"Colin and Jamie really hit it off on Miami Vice but they were disappointed the film didn't do better," an unnamed source advised the U.K.'s Life Style Extra. "They very much want to work together again and they both want another Vice. They feel there is scope for another story."

Not needed, but the first one was good enough that I'd go see a follow up.

I'm still betting there will be a director's cut of "Vice" sometime in the future that will/could smooth out the story line and enhance the characters. Mann was rushed to complete "Vice" and I think with time he could make a much better film. Maybe Farrell and Foxx know what was intended in the first film and want to give it another try.

I'd love to see Miami Vice 2. I recon the first one was cruelly underrated.

It was one of the most under rated movies of the summer, the movie was gritty the action was tense and seemed so real, only Mann can do a shoot out this well. I'm sure everyones familiar with Heat (Heat has by far the best shoot out scene ever in a US movie, internationally I would give the prize to John Woo in Killer or Hard Boiled). I would really like to see a MV 2 as long as Mann is attached!

Well, "Miami Vice" sort of had that egotistical feel to it like all Hollywood remakes do. They need to give Crockett and Tubbs personality, nix the sex scenes, and make the villain albeit like Tom Cruise's Vincent in "Colateral".

I'm all for remakes of classic shows, but with the way Hollywood is fucking them up, maybe there's a reason why trolls are growing.

Miami Vice was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. It was so dull, lagged everywhere, i didn't care a bit about anyone on the movie, or what they were trying to do. It is the only movie I have ever walked out of a theater on. Ever. Granted I work at a movie theater and I see free movies, but I usually always finish any movie I start. How this got as high reviews it did is beyond me. When a movie has a three minute boat ride to get somewhere, you know there isnt much substance.

You know I noticed they never even said "Freeze, Miami Vice", how the hell can they remake a classic show and leave out the main line.

Ultimale069, I like my popcorn with butter in the middle and on top. And not so much ice in the coke please.

Miami Vice was underrated, but Mann did leave a lot of character development out. I do agree that there were lags and dull points, but I could not justify walking out on it. I have never walked out on a movie, and I used to work in theaters for 6 years.

I just hope that they learned their lesson and give the characters both depth and names. If you didn't know the Miami Vice crew from the show, you wouldn't have known them in the movie. Gina, Zito (who was killed in the show), and Zwitek were completely overlooked and left unnamed.

The other thing they should have known and can correct for a sequel is, GET THE BUDGET UNDER CONTROL. Mann has only had 1 movie make over $100 million, and most of that was due to Cruise. Why greenlight a movie at $135 ish million? It has made its money back internationally, ans they still have DVD rental and sales to come.

There was supposedly a boat race scene in daylight that was filmed for the opening, but cut. I am hoping for an extended cut DVD as well.

THAT WAS the best Part! That was the essence of Miami Vice living life in the moment! If I wanna take a hot chick on a fast boat ride this very moment to Cuba thats what I will do! The ocena breeze, the salt splashing just Crocket and his smokin hot biatch, that was it right there! Kinda like an AMERICAN james Bond! No way if you didnt like that boat ride then you just dont get the film.

I liked the movie and I wouldn't count the possibilities of a sequel out. There are movies that have been granted sequels based on strong DVD sales. I also wouldn't mind seeing a sequel to Vice, but my only real problem with the first, was that it lacked personality; it was way too serious, than it needed to be. There could have been a few touches of occassional humor--nothing corny, but something to break the mold, a bit. Also, I wanted to know more about the big-screen Crockett and Tubbs, because their film characters aren't the same as their TV counterparts. They should follow up on those, next time.....if there is a next time.

Michael Mann should only make this if he sets out with the assumption that the first one didn't work. This sequel should aim to correct the mistakes of the first. The opposite of Pirates of the Caribbean which took something good and made it relatively bad.
