"300" Promo Clip is Pretty Drop-Dead Awesome
by Scott Weinberg | September 21, 2006
Discuss Article
It's never wise to get too hyped for a movie based on only one promo clip, but ... wow. The movie is Zack Snyder's "300," which is based on the graphic novel by Frank Miller. And maybe I'm nuts, but this thing looks like "Sin City" meets "Gladiator" -- only cooler.

Click right here (updated with working link) for the goods, and just in case you're wondering -- that's a Nine Inch Nails tune playing throughout the clip. (Apparently this is the exact same promo reel that played at Comic-Con a few months back, so my question is: Why the heck did it take so long to hit the interweb???)

Synopsis: "Set in the midst of the Persian-Greco war during the Battle of Thermopylae, where Spartan king Leonidas led his army of 300 soldiers into battle against the invading Persian army. According to legend, their valor and sacrifice inspired all of Greece to unite against their Persian foe, leading to the origins of democracy."

Cast: Gerard Butler, Lena Headey, Dominic West, Vincent Regan, and David Wenham.

Release Date: March 9th, 2007

"The owner of this content has decided to hide this clip."

Am I the only one getting that?

What?! It was up when we put up the article. Hmm...hopefully, that person will put it up again.

If you search for "300 trailer" on YouTube, you can find a really bad and short version of it.

But just trust us, it's pretty amazing.

Yeah, the window says that the "file size too large" and the video isn't available. What a tease... :P

Hopefully they'll help us find the video someplace else.

it looks pretty good, some of the lines seemed a bit cheesy and the nails tune (even though i love NIN) was out of place in this trailer.

i'm interested to see this develop though.

I saw the clip yesterday, but with the sound turned off.

The wide-angle digital set extensions were less than convincing, but otherwise compliments to the visual look of the picture.

The graphic novel featured some pretty juvenile writing, so I can only hope that the narration and dialogue got a major overhaul.

They needed to reduce the instances of slow-mo in the trailer; that got annoying and made it seem like a promo for the crowd that went and saw The Covenant.

But the film seems interesting and definately worth a look.

Yes, this looks like fun. I'm glad to see they've put Ephialtes in the film, a character I thought they might have left out.

And the quality of the trailer from the link above was pretty good actually.

Based on Frank Miller's graphic novel, he also did Sin City. The era it is in is like Gladiator. Therefore, style and era=Sin City meets Gladiator.

Wow! Now that looks cool! My only worry is that the style and the substance might conflict too much and this will become a flashy epic movie more than a movie with a decent plot and characters. But hopefully I will be proved wrong, the trailer looks great and I cannot wait to see it.

Well it is also like Sin City because it is all green screen stuff, which allows for more controlled style.

I have high hopes for this project, with over 6 more months till release I'm sure it will be worked over well.

The only way that trailer could have been cooler is if they had people in battle jumping before they struck their enemy...oh, wait......
