Christopher Nolan Discusses "The Prisoner," "Following," and "Dark Knight" Rumors

Christopher Nolan recently held a Q&A session following a screening of his movie "Following," and while he gave only a few vague responses in regards to "The Dark Knight" (confirms that Harvey Dent will be in it), he did offer a little bit of excitement regarding his version of "The Prisoner."

From IGN FilmForce: ""The Prisoner" is something I've been interested in for quite a long time, and I think I've figured out the take on how we'd approach it," Nolan explained. "The relevance of it today. David and Janet Peoples are terrific, who you know wrote "Blade Runner" and "Twelve Monkeys"... all kinds of great movies. They're working on the script right now. I wouldn't want to speak for them. I'm very excited to see what they've come up with."

Regarding "The Dark Knight": "I haven't finished the script yet. I'm supposed to be doing it right now," Nolan admitted, sparking laughter from the crowd. "It does, absolutely. It's a pretty direct continuation of where the last film left off, and the last scene of Batman Begins suggests a strong direction we wanted to take the story in. It absolutely carries on with a lot of the thematic concerns and hopefully takes it someplace new."

yahhh!!! so back to the terry gilliam mention made in another prisoner thread, the screen writers are familiar with the bizarre and quirky having worked with him on 12 monkeys.
nolan will do a fine job with it!

Nolan is easily one of my favorite filmmakers, and he's only made a few movies.

Here's looking forward to The Prisoner, and I'll be at The Prestige opening day.

I hope to see the Prestige opening weekend, but I am really dont want to hear anymore about Batman until Comicon or until it comes out. More recently I have found that I have enjoyed movies more when I know little more than the basics. I think it helped me really enjoy Superman, Pirates 2, and Silent Hill. I trust Nolan and the cast.

Who should play dent? They have to be tall, since two face is pretty big, and have to be close in age to bale, since they are friends, so i submit some names for consideration In no particular order:

1. Hugh Jackman (i know he's wolverine, but he is physically right for the part, he's worked with bale and nolan on the prestige, and he could definately pull it off)
2. dougray scott ( was supposed to be wolverine but turned down the part to play MI 2, he fits the bill)
3. guy pearce (worked with nolan on momento and if you saw LA confidental, he has a very "DA" look in that film, although he is a little too short and skinny for two face, but that can be fixed)
4. jude law (i dont really like him, but he looks the part, and transformation from nice harvey to two face could really be a good job, since he is very refined looking and two face is scarred, nice contrast)
5.joaquin pheonix (was my pick for joker but he would be great as two face, harvey dent maybe not so much, but he has played earnest roles like in signs, although a crappy movie, and a bad ass, in gladiator)

others? Eric Bana? Clive Owen? johnny depp? josh lucas (NOOOOOOOOO)? ryan phillipe (looks too young even though he's 32?) Jake gyllenhall (no way, too young and with heath ledger, way too many brokeback jokes)? ed norton (good two face, not so good harvey, although he's got the acting chops)?

Good choices - out of all them i would go for Hugh Jackman or Dougray Scott but half the time its not until you see the person on the screen that you realise they were made for the part.

"The Prisoner" ranks up there as one of my all time favorite shows. The story was fascinating, the visuals were amazingly trippy, and the acting was top-notch; it was probably the best BBC show ever. A movie version excites me.

Nolan is a talented director, but his films always have a dark gloomy edge that would not fit in well with the pschedelic nature of "the Prisoner" The show did have a darkside, but it was always wonderfully flamboyant and full of striking colors. I think a director like Terry Gilliam would be a better choice, and considering he worked so long on the BBC and directed the brilliant "12 Monkeys", Im surprised he wasn't their first choice.

Yeah, everybody pile on Shyamalan now that he's taking it from the critics. Signs sucked. You know, before The Villiage Lady in the Water, I seriously can count on one hand the number of times I heard Shymalan's movies dissed. Now it's just cool to make fun and criticize. Signs was a good entertaining movie. I realize everyone is entitled to their opinions, but it does annoy me when a lot of people all change their opinions based on what becomes acceptable. I mean, I don't sneak around the fact that I love Shyamalan. I even enjoyed Lady in the Water. It wasn't a great movie, but there was a lot to take out of it.

well samwise, i dont know how you derived the fact that i, an anonymous internet poster, had changed my mind about signs and the village after i read the reviews for lady in the water. but thats besides the point. M night's movies have been getting progressively worse as his career has gone on, sixth sense is an all time great in my opinion, unbreakable was "ok", signs and the village were passable the first time through because of all the suspense, but the endings somewhat ruined it for me and since they have no real scares like sixth sense, they have zero replay value, and as for lady, i was willing to play along for the first hour and then it got more and more ridiculous (guy with one bodybuilder arm? we need seven sisters? the crazy taiwanese woman who just has an explanation for everything? the fact that nobody in the film says "this guy heep is crarzy for beliving in narfs and scrunts?")

that being said, M Night is a very unique and original filmmaker, and that counts for something in my book, even if his movies are getting worse (and i dont think anybody can argue with this point) i saw lady in the water even after reading the crappy reviews, giving M night the benefit of the doubt, and unfortunately i agreed with them after seeing the movie. but in an age where we are forced to see trailers like The Covenant, John Tucker Must Die, etc it is comforting to know that there are filmmakers out there who dare to be different. when M comes out with his newest movie, i am quite certain that i will go see it, so long as it isnt lady in the water returns.
