E.L. Doctorow's "Jolene" Nabs Sutherland, Richards, Mulroney and Vartan
by Jen Yamato | October 09, 2006
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Summary

Director Dan Ireland ("Mrs. Palfrey at the Claremont," "The Whole Wide World") has added four new castmembers to "Jolene," and who better to pop up in a teenage girl's decade-long, cross-country search for happiness than Donald Sutherland, Denise Richards, Dermot Mulroney and (sigh) Michael Vartan? Sounds like it could be alright, plus Sutherland, Richards, and Mulroney are all good aditions.

I love the sigh before Micheal Vartan. I don't hate him or anything, only really seen him on Alias. He really that bad or do you guys just dislike him?

He isnt that bad - i dont personally think he has ever been given enough chance to shine. Bit like Ed Burns, they arent given the scripts so they dont get the airtime and so people dont have a high opinion of them!

Looking forward to this film!
Perhaps you are misinterpreting the sigh. Maybe it was meant like the Annie Savoy (“Bull Durham”) Oh….my….type sigh.

I like Ed Burns, but yea he's not given a whole lot to work with.

Ed Burns stars in movies he directs. He really doesn't have an excuse.

he was the best actor in saving private ryan - except from Bary Pepper who also wasnt given good film scripts until 3 burials came along.
Ed burns only stars in films he directs because other people wont give him a chance - he is ina viscious circle!

Read the book and looking forward to the film
Hmm... perhaps the (sigh) is for Hell! He's steaming hot and it's about time we get to see him in a more substantial role!

I think he's also a good actor if given more screen time, and a good script to show his acting ability.

Definitely looking forward to the film
I have to agree with you. I'm thrilled Vartan is getting this opportunity and Dan Ireland is an exceptional director.

Yes, Dan Ireland is a great director and I'm looking forward to see his movie. I've read the book, and Jolene is a great story.

I don't know if you have read the movie critics reviews regarding Michael Vartan's acting, but they were all very good/positive reviews. It's sad that he happened to be in some very bad movies, with horrible plots and dumb scripts. For example, I especially wanted to poke my eyes out after watching Sand. He was stuck in these stupid flops that has nothing to do with his acting ability. I mean if you read the reviews here for Sand, you would see that the critics thought his acting was the only one that was good but with a supporting role, and little screen time, there was nothing Michael could have done to save those terrible movies from going over the cliff.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to see him working with a good director, and given a chance to show his diversity as an actor :) It's sooooo about time!

No, I haven't read any of the reviews for "Sand"; but will. Vartan is a very expressive actor. I definitely agree with your last comments! :)
