Orlando Bloom Not NOT In Future "Pirates of the Caribbean" Flicks
RT has confirmed with some tight-lipped Disney PR associates that recent rumors speculating that Orlando Bloom's character would possibly be killed off in any future "Pirates of the Caribbean" spin-offs that might possibly be in the works are "completely unfounded."
A fourth "Pirates" installment has yet to be confirmed and the third part, "At World's End," is still in production, slated for a May 2007 release. But recent web rumors (really, are there any other kinds?) quoted Disney informants as saying that Bloom would be written out of any future "Pirates" sequels.

The possibility of a Bloom-less future does seem strange for the "POTC" franchise, in which his character Will Turner is, well, pretty central to the story. Then again, "At World's End" is supposedly the third and final installment of the series, as the story will take up where "Dead Man's Chest" abruptly left off, with Will and Elizabeth (Keira Knightley) teaming with "Curse of the Black Pearl"'s Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) to save Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) at the edge of the world.
Plus, the $225 Million-budgeted "Dead Man's Chest" raked in the dough worldwide to the tune of One. Billion. Dollars.
While the Orlando Bloom non-casting rumor was squashed by the publicists we spoke with, they could not confirm that a fourth "POTC" was even in the works. Or that Bloom would definitely be in, should any further sequels be planned. But for now, folks, rest easy knowing that the rumors of Orlando Bloom's potential non-involvement in the "POTC" future have been greatly exaggerated.
The Gore Verbinski-helmed "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" will swashbuckle its way into theaters May 25, 2007.

medicineman writes: on Oct 11 2006 04:51 PM Disney knows that the success of The Pirates movies is due mainly to the charisma of Depp, Bloom, and Knightly. I don't think the Disney stockholders will allow any studio executive to tamper with the cast and risk killing their proven cash cow. (Reply to this) |

Samwise Gamgee writes: on Oct 11 2006 08:20 PM It just would cast a huge shadow over the series. The second one has already take a lot of flack for simply being made to draw people in and make money (although, if that isn't the purpose of every blockbuster, I don't know what is) Even though I am not a huge fan of Orlando, killing any main character off like that, especially for the reasons mentioned, would make it extremely difficult for me to watch future installments. fizzypulp writes: on Oct 12 2006 02:52 AM In defense of Bloom (who i admit is no great actor) he was the saving grace of Elizabethtown - and i agree when people say its not his fault but the way he is typecast. Give him a role where he is a mean SOB and then we can judge his acting abilities. (Reply to this) |

Hari Seldon writes: on Oct 12 2006 04:35 AM I agree with medicineman regarding the charisma; especially in Orlando Bloom's case. Any teenage girl who has seen the pirates movies will tell you that. Remember that this is a Disney movie based on a Disney ride so the pirates movies are aimed at kids and those who remember what it was like to be a kid; just like Star Wars, Indiana Jones etc. (Reply to this) |

Will the Black Pearl be able to nail the small opening in the exhaust port of the Death Star to bring down the English empire? All this and more in Pirates 3: Return Of The Buccaneers! Paul_Is_Drunk writes: on Oct 12 2006 03:59 PM In reply to this comment (#846393) Uh, you do know the character is getting killed off, not the human being. Or are you one of those people (kids?) that doesn't realize actors aren't actually like the people they play on screens? If you're offended that women like him, shouldn't you be trying to get over your own insecurities rather than blaming someone else? Regardless of his Keanu Reeves style of acting, I'm willing to be he's a better actor than 100% of the people posting here. Oh, and stop seeing his damn movies if you don't like him. Jeez, people, use some common sense. (Reply to this) |

edgarandstephen writes: on Oct 12 2006 04:02 PM although I (and many others) want this to end after the third installment, i doubt after having the second one make a freakin billion dollars that the studio will put an end to it. They will draw out every last possible penny, and if the third does decent (and we all know it will) they will keep them coming till people get sick of Pirates....(the same goes with the Spiderman series)...movies should not be a television series!
