The Return of Bruce Lee?
by Scott Weinberg | October 18, 2006
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Now here's a confusing piece of news: Director Rob Cohen is about to direct a new movie called "Rage & Fury," and it's set to star ... Bruce Lee?

Here's what's been posted at ProductionWeekly.com: "Rob Cohen is set to helm "Rage & Fury," featuring the legendary Bruce Lee, the most influential and famous martial artists of all time. Cohen, direct the 1993 biopic "Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story." Gustin Nash and Jesse Cale, penned the project which is scheduled to begin filming in late Spring 2007."

"Featuring?" You tell me what that means.

It means they'll pull him out of other films using CGI techniques, kind of like the way they had Fred Astaire dancing with a vacuum cleaner in that stupid commercial. This will be just as bad and just as disrespectful.

didn't Cohen direct that crappy bio pic about him a few years back? Oh yeah, and the Fast and the Furious. and XXX. and Stealth.

Why not just re-release his films to theaters?

oh snap! I think I just wet myself! And by the way that Bio pic wasn't that bad. Man theres a lot of movie to look forward to now, 300, transformers (some promising good news lately) and now a Bruce Lee movie! I knew hes not dead and hes been hiding out all these years with Elvis and Tupac.

Yeah, agreed. "Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story" is actually not bad. Sure, it took some liberties, but I think it captured the general spirit of Bruce Lee. And it was damn fun and entertaining, unlike most bio-pics that take themselves too seriously.

heard about this before......
The whole point of Dragon: the bruce lee story was that it was supposed to capture the mythology and the essence of the man within the film. The reality behind many of the instances were purposefully exaggerated to give an audience the idea of what Lee actually infused into those who watched him when his career began. As for the new film, i heard that the family of Bruce lee have been interested in doing another film that focused on the true circumstances and instances that actually occurred within Lee's life and to honestly depict them on screen.

I actually find it interesting cinematically to have the director of one piece that was supposed to be metaphorical in its representation now depicting the same subject realistically. And since Dragon was really Cohen's last good film, and he personally cares for the topic it will be interesting to see the result. It may have be potential to actually become a companion piece to Dragon. (It would be even more interesting in Jason Scott Lee to reprise the role, though he may be too old at 40 to get into enough physical prowess to do it.)

This is Crap
Rob Cohen is a bigger hack than Micheal Bay

"Dragon" was not that bad, but I guarentee if someone else directed it it would of been phenomenal

There is something stange also about them doing the same thing for Bruce Lee that they did for his son in the Crow
