Scoop on a FOURTH "Spider-Man 3" Villain?
by Scott Weinberg | October 30, 2006
Discuss Article
It was Villain Overkill that helped to kill the Burton/Schumacher "Batman" series -- but somehow we don't expect the same thing to happen with Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man 3" -- we hope.

From Dark Horizons and Film Ick: "The appearance of Bruce Campbell as Quentin Beck [aka Mysterio] in "Spider-Man 3" is to play out something a like this reports Filmick:

"Peter Parker finds out about a Spider-Man movie being made and goes to the set to check it out. Avi Arad and Sam Raimi have cameos as the producer and director. Quentin Beck is the movie's special FX guy.

The fact that Peter and MJ are both in the public eye - though one can never reveal that he is - is milked for a little bit of fun too.

This brief cameo appearance by Beck is just about the full the breadth and depth of the "4th villain" mystery".

That's sweet, I'm glad that the 4th villain doesn't do much in this film. It will be sweet as hell though if they keep making sequels and have Campbell as the main villain in one.

Well, some unknown actor was Henry McCoy in one of the earlier X-Men movies then was recast to Kelsey Grammer in the third X-Men. Same could happen here. Same thing happened in the original Batman movie in 89 with Billy Dee Williams as Dent then Tommy Lee Jones recast in the role for Forever.

Oooh, he was in 2 as well, as the usher at The Importance of Being Earnest that Peter arrives at late. At least he's been doing entertainment related things in the previous movies, so having him be the same guy, but now as an SFX guy for a Spiderman movie, might work. As long as no one looks too closely.

God if Bruce Cambell became a main villian in a future Spidey movie...oh man, my brain can't even compute how awesome that would be...

It make perfect sense for him to be Quentin Beck since he was random people in the first 2 movies. It's like he was being mysterious and blending in with everyone else. Hopefully if they make another movie with him as the villan, they will illude to the fact that the previous characters he played in the other 2 movies were infact Quentin Beck.

More!
I hope that it gets even more ridiculous, a la the film adaptation of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead... the movie that Parker discovers should be about Spider-Man discovering a school that's making a Spider-Man musical. That way there'll be a play-with-in-a-movie-within-a-movie.

The ring announcer in the first movie, the usher in the second movie, the narrator in both the games, and now Mysterio (sort of). Bruce Campbell is officially the best running cameo ever.

I really look forward to how the game's going to handle this. They had Mysterio in the Spider-Man 2 game, so it'll be something confusing to be sure.

Bruce Campbell as Mysterio; what a hook! No doubt they will tie in his appearances in the other two movies as the ring announcer and usher. Both times he faced Peter Parker in cameos yet you remember both roles; his attitude of belittling Parker came across as if he knew something about Parker that he didn't know himself. If they tie in this with his character of Mystertio, then Raimi will once and for all prove his brilliance beyond any doubt. This series is getting better with each movie.

They did this in Ultimate Spider-Man Volume 10 "Hollywood"

It is almost exactly the same, even Toby is in it.

Check it out, for those of you who don't know

Talk about overreaction

sounds cool, Bruce as Mysterio, or at least as the guy who becomes Mysterio. even if they never get to Mysterio in future films likr Dr, Connors/Lizard, it sets up the possibility and is a nice nod to the fans. Groovy!

I did not say he was. I don't agree that everyone knows who he is. He is not mainstream either. I like Bruce a lot.
