Jeff Bridges or Ben Kingsley vs. Michael Meyers
Shock-rock filmmaker Rob Zombie recently sat down with MTV's Movie Department and shared a whole lot of thoughts and ideas regarding his remake of John Carpenter's "Halloween." When touching upon the subject of who'd be playing Dr. Loomis, Zombie rattled off a few names like Jeff Bridges and Ben Kingsley. (Great choice on the first one; not so much on the second.)
From MTV: ""I felt the character of Dr. Loomis just popped in and out when they needed somebody to say something dramatic," Zombie observed. "I wanted his story to feel more intertwined with Michael in a way that means something, which they did in the original, but sometimes it feels like he disappears for a long period and then just pops up to go, 'He's evil!,' and then he disappears again for a while."
Zombie's eyes light up as he talks about casting his Loomis, and names ranging from Jeff Bridges to Ben Kingsley turn up on his very, very loose "what if?" list. "There is no shortage of late-50s, early-60s male actors that are amazing and would like to work more, probably much like Donald Pleasence at the time [he was cast as the original Loomis]," Zombie said."

on Nov 01 2006 10:45 AM G-d NO, this is just wrong Halloween was a horror movie that was meant to scare us, it does not require some new big budget remake at all to reclaim it's dominance in the genre. Rob Zombie's movies are very entertaining, but his films are more for making us laugh than to scare us, I don't see how he could possibly pull this off without mocking the original (Reply to this) |

on Nov 01 2006 10:54 AM I've been impressed with how much Zombie has grown as a director. The more I watch his movies the more I see that he's not just some guy throwing music video images at the screen. As for a Halloween remake or prequel this is a tough project for any director but I'll definitely give it a chance. (Reply to this) |

on Nov 01 2006 10:58 AM kingsley, would be fucking awesome. or old reliable sid haig. but i'd rather see ben kingsley cause he slightly resembles donald pleasance. thomas of the living dead (Reply to this) |

on Nov 01 2006 01:48 PM I don't think Ben Kingsley, IMO, has the right "feel" to him as Dr. Loomis. But, ya never know, we'll see. I, too, agree that Jeff Bridges would be a better choice. He doesn't look at all like Donald Pleasence, but, he feels more the part. (Reply to this) |

on Nov 01 2006 01:53 PM it sounds like it's shaping up to be a good movie. i would chose Jeff over Ben, because i aggree Jeff is more fit for the part. I wonder who will be cast for Jamiee Lee Curtis' role? (Reply to this) |

on Nov 01 2006 08:32 PM Sir Ben of course! Kingsley is the superior actor to Bridges! And that's saying a lot! So gotta go with the King. (Reply to this) |

on Nov 01 2006 11:09 PM This franchise seems to be in good hands. I'm glad that it went to Zombie instead of some hack director. (Reply to this) |

on Nov 01 2006 11:44 PM god i hope Zombie does this right. the original is a true classic that still holds up. the many sequels have done nothing to tarnish the original's reputation, they've only made the original shine even brighter. so i guess no matter how this film turns out, the original will always stand alone. i still wanna see Zombie (hell, ANYONE for that matter) make a good Halloween movie. on Nov 02 2006 06:43 AM Ben Kingsley? The same guy who chooses roles in Bloodrayne, Thunderbirds, Suspect Zero, etc. Career is in shambles after Gandhi and Sexy Beast. He might be poison for this movie if he's in it, but I'm not saying he's not a bad choice. Does Dr. Loomis have to be a white guy? How about some Morgan Freeman? James Earl Jones? Shake it up Zombie. on Nov 02 2006 12:39 PM I just can't believe they are re-making THE DEFFINITIVE horror movie. It defined a generation of movies. Why re-make it? Why not make a prequel or something? About Mike Myers as a kid, or at least something original. This has Vince Vaughn-Psycho written all over it. (Reply to this) |
