"Castlevania" Details Begin to Emerge
So get your complaining out of the way now: Paul W.S. Anderson is directing an adaptation of the video game "Castlevania" for Universal's Rogue division. True, he directed "Alien vs. Predator," but he also did "Event Horizon." And that movie creeps me out.
From IGN Movies: "Rogue Pictures has hooked up with genre filmmaker Paul W.S. Anderson and Crystal Sky Entertainment to help bring the classic videogame Castlevania to the big screen. Rogue, according to today's Variety will distribute the $50 million film in North America. Dimension Films, who had been previously linked with the project, dropped the movie after they failed to warm up to Anderson's script.
A number of new details have emerged about the "Resident Evil" and "Mortal Kombat" filmmaker's approach to the project. Anderson's script reportedly spans many time periods but mostly takes place in 15th century Transylvania. The movie is described as a fresh take on the Dracula legend, taking it back to the beginning with the story of Romanian prince Vlad the Impaler."

on Nov 04 2006 01:15 PM i think they should shoot the movie Red vs. Blue style (www.redvsblue.com), (no, i am not at all affiliated with that website, but HALO rules)... use the video game for the action sequences, then do voice overs. actually. now that i think about it... they shoudl hire the guys from red vs. blue to make the halo movie. on Nov 04 2006 04:20 PM It would make a great SciFi channel movie. I think the story belongs on cable, not on the big screen. Animated preferably for vidoegame interpretations in my opinion (Reply to this) |

on Nov 04 2006 04:39 PM I would rather see a good movie on Vlad the Impaler than Castlevania. I was never a fan of the game, and yeah, video games based on movies have yet to do anything magical (although I do have hope for the eventual Halo movie); but they will sooner or later (like Halo, I hope :P ). Will Castlevania be the flagship? Really doubt it. Will it be a good movie. Again, really doubt it. (Reply to this) |

on Nov 04 2006 08:20 PM look, Castlevania has potential in the hands of a competent director. Paul W.S Anderson is not that director. so yeah find someone new. also to the first guy's comment, why have Rooster Teeth make the Halo movie when they could make a Red Vs blue movie, wich will be an hour and a half of Tucker making peverted jokes followed by BOWW-CHIKA-BOW-WOW. i smell Oscar. ![]() on Nov 04 2006 09:46 PM re: redvsblue.com; saw two of the videos. one funny, one not. no lasting power there. re: castlevania movie; could be good if they follow some of the scripted game stories. but i will coulnt it an accomplishment if they can make it better than van helsing was. no, that's not a compliment, just my expectations are low. on Nov 05 2006 03:15 AM If they followed the Aria of Sorrow arc, it might (*MIGHT*) be a decent movie. Otherwise, it'll just be a generic "dude versus vampires" movie. 10:1 it's the latter. (Reply to this) |

on Nov 05 2006 11:50 AM I'm a big fan of the games, especially on GBA and DA, but I dont htink it can make a good movie. I saw RE1 for the first time last week yikes it sucks. He tried too hard. If he wants to make this movie good, he should just make it a simple mindless bloodfest. (Reply to this) |

on Nov 05 2006 05:44 PM Event Horizon creeps me out, too. It's not good, but it's so damn creepy that it's really sort of essential to me. This Castlevania thing sounds like typical Anderson shit. It'll probably come out like Van Helsing, but the cast and script will probably suck harder. (Reply to this) |

on Nov 06 2006 09:49 AM RIP Castlevania. Castlevania 1-3 were great. 2 was so epic I loved that game. Symphony of the Night was a great game as well. As for a movie, as long as its better than AvP and RE1 I would be pleased but I doubt its gonna happen. (Reply to this) |
