Tarantino's "Grindhouse" to be Funny and Real
by Fred Topel | November 07, 2006

Robert Rodriguez showed footage of his "Grindhouse" movie, "Planet Terror," at Comic-Con. The crazy action include amputated strippers and Danny Trejo with a trench coat full of machetes. Mary Elizabeth Winstead assured Rotten Tomatoes that Quentin Tarantino's portion of Grindhouse, "Death Proof," will be just as crazy, but a little bit different.

"On a smaller scale," she explained. "There's not so many characters and there's not so much going on. Robert's is more of a fantasy kind of thing whereas Quentin's is more like a real life. Kurt Russell's the madman but he’s human. He's not a zombie or something that would happen in some other world like Planet Terror. So it's on a smaller scale but it's just as ridiculous and crazy as Robert's in some ways."

Expect the usual brand of Tarantino's pop culture riffing. Winstead's character description alone sounds quotable. "I play this up and coming starlet who's in a movie with Lindsay Lohan. We talk about that in the script and we’re playing cheerleaders, so I'm in a cheerleader outfit the whole time. Rosario Dawson plays my makeup artist and most of it is actually really comedic in a lot of ways until it turns terrifying.'

"Grindhouse" is scheduled for April 6, 2007.

Not dissing at all-- seriously, what the hell is so exciting about this? Do you just have to be a Tarantino\Rodriguez\genre fan to be looking forward to it?

I saw that trailer (or clip or whatever it was supposed to be) on Youtube, and I have no idea what the big deal is. I'm asking honestly, as the hype about a movie like this is bewildering???

im stoked for this. it's good to see a Homage to the cheesy horror movies of the 70's. Having Tarintino and Rodriguez helm it just mean it's gonna rock my fucking socks.

Rodriguez seems like a really cool guy. His films are never perfect but still very entertaining - it's his commentaries and behind the scenes extras on the dvds that are just fantastic! Makes you appreciate what he does even more.

Yeah, I'm completely pumped for both halves. But the faux trailers in the middle (Machete, etc.) sound almost as interesting as the movies themselves!

Not only am I excited for Grindhouse, but I'm almost MORE excited of the possibility that it may become a new franchise.
