MGM Promises More Panther, Bond, Crown, Rocky & Hobbit
It looks like the cash-strapped MGM is about to seriously scale back on its productions, but they still have five strapping franchises on which they'll bet the ranch...
From Variety: "Steve Martin recently delivered a script for the latest "Pink Panther," where his Inspector Clouseau teams up with equally bumbling detectives from other European countries to defeat a continent-wide crime wave. Shooting is expected to start in February.
The next "Thomas Crown," starring Pierce Brosnan, is scheduled for March, with a likely budget around $100 million.
Daniel Craig will return in the sequel to "Casino Royale."
Sloan said "Rocky Balboa," which is set for release next year, will probably be the last installment in that franchise, because Sylvester Stallone's title character will be too old for the ring.
As for "The Hobbit," Sloan confirmed MGM was in talks with Peter Jackson to make two movies based on J.R.R. Tolkein's "prequel" to "The Lord of the Rings."

Hamsack writes: on Nov 15 2006 08:38 AM Well, if you read the article it states that the first Hobbit movie will be a direct adaption of the book, while the second Hobbit movie will be based on footnotes to connect Hobbit to LOTR. So judging by that the whole book will be covered in ONE movie. I think it's possible to succesfully do the whole Hobbit in a 3 hour movie or so. (Reply to this) |

TheIceGhost writes: on Nov 15 2006 09:30 AM I'm interested to see how Rocky Balboa goes down, but yeah, I'm happy they've realized it needs to end. The Hobbit was probably my favorite book out of the J.R.R Tolkein camp, so I hope they get ol' P.J to make it. It would be interested to make 2 movies, but yeah, I can easily see it being done in 1. lavatory love machine writes: on Nov 15 2006 09:43 AM that second hobbit movie sounds strange if it's not based on the book the hobbit and it's intended to connect the hobbit and the lord of the rings, then they are going to use stuff from "the silmarillion" (Reply to this) |

FireflyFan4evr writes: on Nov 15 2006 02:08 PM In reply to this comment (#848894) Actually it couldn't be from The Silmarillion, as it takes place thousands of years before The Hobbit and the vast majority of it doesn't even connect in any way to Middle Earth. It takes place in Arda (ie- the place the elves were going to in LOTR). (Reply to this) |

killermonkey8822 writes: on Nov 15 2006 05:23 PM the first pink panther sucked so i hope they get better people to make the second film, i never saw the first thomas crown movie so i don't care, and i just can't wait for casino royale so i am pretty excited for a sequel (even though i don't get to see the new one until friday) but i hope they follow the movies like the book and not using their own ideas, and rocky balboa i don't know okay for me the series ended after number three because the first one was pretty good the second one was alright but the third one was silly and so were 4 and 5 but i only saw 4 and 5 once and i hated them so i don't see why i should have to watch this one plus "before slyvester stallone gets too old" he already is too old, okay for the hobbit why the hell do they need two movies isn't one 3 hour movie enough and i haven't been really up to date with hobbit news so is peter jackson doing it?? cuz if he isn't then i would say quit the project right now and i am out. Darkness My Old Friend writes: on Nov 16 2006 09:39 AM I don't know what happened to Steve Martin, but he should stop making comedies, especially the "Family Friendly" variety. Dude, go make a screenplay of Picasso or bring on more Dramas. (Reply to this) |
