Blog Article | Discuss Article
Summary

If you're like me, then you really have LOVE John Carpenter's "The Thing," which means you might be annoyed to learn that a new remake is officially underway. But you shouldn't be annoyed, and here's why: The "Thing" we all love so much ... is a remake in its own right. Back to Article

Not judging until I see the trailer or who is directing... Only because I like Battlestar Gallactica and I have faith in the writers.

The orginal 1982 movie actually inspired a lot of the Japanese animation and gave ideas to many video games series. I think the...um thing is still one of the best SciFi film of all time. Lets hope the remake wouldn't destroy all the rep of the original movie.

Good grief
A remake of Walter Hill's "The Warriors" and now a remake of one of the all-time great remakes, John Carpenter's "The Thing." Can modern-day Hollywood get anymore messed up?

The nerve-racking tension, great performances and Rob Bottin's grisly makeup effects is what made Carpenter's "The Thing" one of the best films of the 1980s. Using a lot of CGI and a bunch of good-looking young actors sure ain't gonna make the new one any better.

I love this movie, and I've been aware it's a remake from day one, but it does something all new with the material. Unless we get a really amazing director, this will be nothing but a dissapointment.

I should cut and paste this article, add a few animated middle fingers and call it a remake!

A remake of a remake? This will not do John Carpenter's classic any justice! CGI galore!

I don't know why they would bother, the last thing hasn't aged at all it's still awsome even by todays standards.
Kurt Russel was great they will have to find a good lead.
NO CGI though!!!!!!!!!!

No matter what Ronald Moore has accomplished on TV with Battlestar Galactica, he, along with Brannon Braga, were the guys who eventually ran the Star Trek films into the ground, with Insurrection and Nemesis.
For all those hoping there will be no CGI - of course there will be. And too much, probably. And probably a cast of young up-and-comers, probably some females too.
All I have to hear is Michael Bay is producing, and the kiss of death will be final.

Of course it's a remake!
Scott, do you think we're RETARDS? Everyone knows it's a remake. It was produced by *Howard Hawks*!

It's also based on a story... and the Carpenter version is faithful to that story (the original film didn't have the FX budget - nor were bladder FX invented back then - RB created them... I think for HOWLING.)

So the real Q is: will this version be faithful to the Cambell story, or not?

- Bill

Carpenter's film was more of a faithful telling of the story than the '50s movie. It wasn't a remake, or a continuation from where the first film left off, as was suggested. But it wouldn't be hard to be more faithful to the story than either film, although it won't happen.

Carpenter's Thing is one of my favorite films and I'm not even a fan off horror films or gore! It's just a mind blowingly intense movie. I am pissed about this being remade. I don't care who's writing it.
