elziard writes: on Nov 29 2006 02:24 PM don't quite know the origin/inspiration other than gaiman's story, but reading it, the story is more an amalgamation of classic folklore. witches of ageless beauty needing the heart of another for sustained youth; questing for a loved one; heirs fighting for the crown to their kingdom through murder; magic object to aide the hero's way. all classic elements in a great literal fairytale.
