Stan Lee on Superhero Movies and His Surprising "Fantastic Four 2" Cameo
At 84 years old, the legendary comics god Stan Lee is showing no signs of slowing down. Right now he's out there hawking a really cool video game called "Marvel Ultimate Alliance," preparing for a second season of "Who Wants to Be a Superhero?," and doing cameo roles in basically all of the Marvel movies -- including the new "Hulk" and "Fantastic Four" flicks.
From MovieWeb.com: "I have spoken with people of all age groups and my mother, in particular, loved all three X-Men films. I was wondering why you think those movies struck such a chord with people?
Stan Lee: I think one reason might be because they feature characters whose problems we can sympathize with and relate to. The stories aren't merely an excuse for meaningless action but they deal in human relationships and human emotions.
Can you talk at all about Fantastic Four: Rise of The Silver Surfer, the new Hulk movie (where it might be going), and Iron Man?
Stan Lee: Sorry, If I gave any advance info away they'd send Dr. Doom after me. I can only tell you that my cameo in the Fantastic Four is one of the best I've done. I not only have a speaking role, but when you see what the scene depicts, it'll be one of the biggest surprises of all."

cgcbooks writes: on Dec 01 2006 09:33 AM In reply to this comment (#850092) The first three you mentioned were basically stolen from Superman, The Doom Patrol and The Challengers of the Unknown, respectively. The Hulk of course was Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Besides, he acts like he was the only one involved with Marvel Comics. Every Marvel character is the same, by having too many problems. If I wanted real issues, I would pick up a newspaper or watch the evening news. Comics should be entertaining, not preachy. Lee should be ashamed and punished for his outright plagiarism. liono86 writes: on Dec 01 2006 12:34 PM Ummm...what does Spiderman and Superman have in common again? Oh, I know, it's that you can hit Spidey and affect him whereas you can't Superman. Or is the similarities that Superman can use a heating vision and Spiderman can sling webs. Soooooo many similarities. And, Hulk isn't a bad guy when he turns into his big, green self, he's just out of control, unlike Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde where Mr. Hyde is just pure evil. You're right. So much was taken from them. Bigbrother writes: on Dec 01 2006 03:00 PM In reply to this comment (#850093) Your argument is so flawed I don't know where to begin, but here goes. First off... I love the fact that with the exception of Superman, all the allegedly stolen Stan Lee creations are wildly more popular than the one's you say they are stolen from and I'd almost bet Spiderman is pretty close to outgrossing Superman. No knock on Superman mind you also a creation of genius. Guess what pal here's the juice, almost every work is inspired by previous works. Stan Lee just took inspiration from other works i.e. Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde and gave them his own twist. Doesn't mean they aren't genius themselves. Just look at the works of William Shakespeare and try to find me one play that wasn't taken from a previously existing story or historical event. Originality is not necessarily a key to genius. Plus until I create something that can maintain or gain in it's popularity for 40+ years, I'm not going to be hurling stones at someone who did. (Reply to this) |

cgcbooks writes: on Dec 02 2006 06:42 AM DC Comics is the best selling comics publisher. Kind of like DC=Coke and Marvel=Pepsi. Marvel will always come in second to DC. DC always had the better writers and the better artists. You Marvel crybabies can all cry together. That is all. (Reply to this) |

cgcbooks writes: on Dec 02 2006 08:16 AM In reply to this comment (#850095) DC's Superman becomes Marvel's Spider-man. DC's "Daily" Planet becomes Marvel's "Daily" Bugle. DC's Clark Kent becomes Marvel's Peter Parker.- "Secret Identity". DC's Perry White becomes Marvel's J.Jonah Jameson. DC's Jimmy Olsen photographer becomes Marvel's peter parker photographer. DC's "L"ois "L"ane, "L"ucy "L"ane, "L"ana "L"ang, become Marvel's "P"eter "P"arker. Your right, there is nothing similar about Superman and Spider-man. (Reply to this) |

cgcbooks writes: on Dec 02 2006 08:28 AM In reply to this comment (#850098) And Superman and Batman are alike?, and Green Lantern and the Flash are alike?, and Wonder Woman and Plastic Man are alike?. I was comparing DC and Marvel characters, not the characters from the same publishers. You are not making sense. Why would I be jealous of Marvel Comics. DC was first and will always be first. Marvel will always come in second. Most non comic people don't even know about Marvel characters, except for Spider-man. Long live DC Comics. Thank you and good afternoon. (Reply to this) |

The Iron Invader writes: on Dec 02 2006 10:08 AM Marvel did indeed copy DC, but they added so much of their own visions and ideas, that they managed to trump DC. Most of DC's characters are terrible. (Reply to this) |
