"Alias" Star Boards Barker's "Meat Train"
"Alias" actor Bradley Cooper (who was pretty darn funny in "Wedding Crashers") has signed on to play the lead in Ryuhei Kitamura's "Midnight Train," a horror flick based on Clive Barker's short (and nasty) story "Midnight Meat Train."
From Variety: "Bradley Cooper will topline "Midnight Train," based on Clive Barker's tale about murderous mayhem on the Gotham subway.
Lakeshore and Lionsgate are producing the pic, with Lionsgate on board to distribute. Lensing is set to begin this winter.
"Train" is based on Barker's short story "Midnight Meat Train," published in his popular "Books of Blood" series. It centers on a photographer on the trail of a serial killer who operates in the subway system."

And if you like horror and you have yet to read Barker's "Books of Blood," then you're nuts.

I don’t know Kitamura’s pedigree (maybe someone could fill me in on this?), but I hope he’s as brave as the source material. If it leads to a rash of Books of Blood adaptations, it could only be of enormous benefit to the currently stagnant and stultifying horror genre. (Reply to this) |

Kitamura is a rather slppy B-grade shock film maker (see: Azumi, Versus) but I guess I should be happy that anything with BArker's name on it is getting made at all. (Reply to this) |

FluxCapacitor writes: on Dec 11 2006 06:20 AM Tatopolous dropped out for scheduling reasons, according to news posted last month on clivebarker.info. Still, thanks for the gen on Kitamura - I actually saw Versus a few years ago and really liked it... pretty plot-free, for sure, but I enjoyed its lo-fi thrills. Didn't pay any attention at the time to who was behind it, but it certainly raised the blood. Bottom line is, he ain't dull, which is the main thing. (Reply to this) |

Also, the first time Hungarian director who made Kontroll (which was lacking story and acting wise) knows how to make the subways look beautifully disturbing. He would have been an interesting, low-cost choice as well. (Reply to this) |
