Kasdan, Apatow & John C. Reilly to Introduce "Dewey Cox"
by Scott Weinberg | December 29, 2006

How many musician-centric biopics do you have to sit through before you start clamoring for a nice juicy parody of the sub-genre? Well, one's on it's way, courtesy of director Jake Kasdan, screenwriter/producer Judd Apatow, and character actor turned comedy star John C. Reilly.

Get the full rundown on the project over at the L.A. Times. Here's a snip: ""Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story" (is) a comedic take on tortured musician biopics. The three filmmakers and a variety of musical talents are in the studio recording 15 songs for the project. "It's a parody of the genre," says Kasdan, who cites "Ray," "Great Balls of Fire" and, uh, "Selena" as inspirational touchstones. "The character is an amalgamation of a lot of different guys, but the movie is playing on the conventions of 'great-man' movies and biopics in general." (Click here for the full article.)

All I needed to hear was Jake Kasdan ("Zero Effect"), Judd Apatow ("The 40-Year-Old Virgin") and John C. Reilly ("Boogie Nights," "Chicago," "Talladega Nights") in the same sentence and I was already sold, but based on that article, the flick sounds pretty potentially hilarious.

I loves me the John C. Reilly, and while I enjoy a lot of biopics, they can definitely get a little too self-important sometimes. There's some parody gold in them thar hills.

this is gonna be funny as hell. it's like Ray meets Spinal Tap w/o the documentarian aspect.
