As long as they don't try to overdo the special effects, and keep the performances in the forefront, this should be great film, as long as nobody lets Lucas anywhere near the project after he finishes the rough draft framework of the script.

Just to hear that bullwhip crack in surround sound, and see that dusty fedora and devilish grin, will make my 2008 a good year to look forward to

I can't wait for this movie. I really hope that it doesn't suck. But it just puzzles me that Sean Connery is in it. Isn't he gonna be portrayed as 90 or something of that sort?? How old is Sean Connery anyway? (too lazy to make a wikipedia search)

2008 here I wait!

I can't tell you how much I hope this is a good movie. I used to be a big Ford fan - back when he made truly good movies instead of Hollywood Crapicide. Still, is this news? I thought it was pretty well settled that Indy 4 was about to be made and would be out in the next year or two.

My one worry - Lucas. After the Star Wars prequels, if I hear "Lucas told the Associated Press that he expects the latest edition of the much-loved franchise to be "fantastic...the best one yet," all I can think of is Bush telling Brownie he's doing a heck of a job. It's the kiss of death.

1) Lucas is going to shoot the stupid thing in digital
2) A lot of movie fx money is going to spend on trying to make the 64 year old dude look a like he can still do action
3) Lucas's big swelling head is trying to make this movie with a lot of blue screen stuff
4)return of jar jar binks

lucas and spielberg. $$$$.

get sean connery, bad ass villan, and kick ass effects . sweeetness.

If Harrison Fords name wasnt Harrison Ford it would be Indiana Jone DAMN RIGHT! Can't wait for this movie and hey for 64 or whatever Harrison looks in damn good shape he can pull it off.

i'm wary of this based on Ford and Lucas's last few projects. Crap all around. The only hope I have is Spielberg turning this thing into something watchable. I do hope they acknowledge Ford's age, make comment on it, and make it a major part of the story. Kind of like what they did with the later Star Trek movies.

2008 might be fun, with this and Batman 2.

Yeah, cause later Star Trek movies were fantastic :(. I don't care what projects Lucas and Ford have done recently. This is their baby, this is what they do, no way they're gonna screw it up. I don't care if they had to strap up Harrison Ford's corpse on mineret strings. I'd still rather see that than someone else try to do the role.

Well I loved the indiana jones trilogy and when I heard a part 4 along time ago I was kind of skeptical.Harrison ford is 64 and now that he is older I would imagine he would be unable to do the things he could've done when the originals were around.I am happy that steven spielberg is attached and willing to do the film also as I read was that david koepp(whos written movies such as war of the wrlds, jurassic park, jurassic park 2) would be writing the film so there is still hope.

As for storywise since indiana jones drank the challace of life at the end of 3 the story could be taken to any height and as I read once was a rumor would have indiana jones in the late 21st century setting out to find the lost city of atlantis but was later denied. another rumor was that the story would take place 25 or so years later after part 3 but these are just rumors.

Lucas has an incredible inagination and lots of fun when he's making his movies and regardless of what you may think of him, that shows in all his movies. I've enjoyed all 6 of the Star Wars movies, likewise with the 3 Indiana Jones movies. I saw and loved THX 1138 when it was first released and even enjoyed American Graffitti. I guess that makes me a Lucas fan so that along with Ford and Spielberg back on board for Indy 4, I don't see any problem. As Bigbrother said, this is their baby.

Indy 4 will likely be excellent
I think most of us who are reasonable human beings agree that Star Wars Episode 1 & 2 are some of the worst blockbusters ever made (unless you're a fanboy). Episode 3 was an improvement, but not enough to warrant a label of 'great'.
I however have more confidence in Indy 4. If it was only Lucas driving this ship, I'd be very worried. But it's him plus Spielberg, who will direct it, and Ford all having input.
Here's my point: The first Star Wars (episode 4) was great because Lucas had a studio overlooking the production over his shoulder. They could rein in his ideas and made sure the script was spectacular. In Empire Strikes back, Lucas didn't have the studio watching over him, but he made the great move of NOT writting the script and letting someone else direct it.
So with Indy 4 he isn't allowed to do whatever he feels like. He also has Spielberg and Ford to answer to, plus he isn't directing. Therefore the odds of success have exponentialy increased, especially when considering that they took 13 years to make sure the script was more than good, but great.

Spielberg will be the one to keep it on film. That's a plus. I'm concerned in the script department. What was fantastic about Raiders of the Lost Ark was the 3 part team of Lucas, Spielberg, and Lawrence Kasdan. That team was similar to the Empire Strikes Back team, but replace Spielberg with Kershner. I think they need a strong third person that is a writer. This movie may be fantastic. If they push it in a Batman Begins kind of direction I think it could be great. Hopefully they will keep the sets real. I know Spielberg is not really fond of green screen and he will have the final say on that. I know Lucas gets a lot of guff about his decisions on Star Wars. His strength is in structuring, which I thought the prequels had a great structure. He needed an equal instead of lackeys in the script department on those films to flesh out the characters. He had outside people that were friends he trusted on every other Star Wars film he made that worked on dialogue mostly. He didn't use that formula on the prequels. Steven and George both admited that Larry Kasdan was the one that insisted on the flow of the story on Raiders. I hope the writer is more involved in this new indy film. It'll keep Lucas from losing sight of character and Spielberg from sappy town.

It revived a stale series, so if you don't think so, you should be hung, as aforementioned, or tied to the hood of a car bomb.

Me being hung or tied to the hood of a car bomb won't change the fact that Episode 3 was, although good, not great. Most reasonable people agree, unless you're a fanboy. That is the only utter-bias that would make someone love that movie beyond what it deserves. It was entertaining, an improvement. But that's it.
Oh and btw, it seems that the Indy 4 comments by Lucas may have been premature according to theraider.net.
sigh.

a couple of thing first, after dreamcatcher lawrence kasdan lost any sort of respect he still had left from co-writing empire, so it's not a loss

then about the the drinking from the holy grail stuff, if you remember at the end of crusade, the keeper of the grail told indy that the inmortality effect gets cancel when the person who drank the water leaves that church, crosing the symbol on the floor, indy knew that only drank to save his father, the keeper was inmortal because he never walked out of that place

so this movie should take place in the 60s

Defmonkey, those tears from Stallone were because he crapped his adult diaper while filming that scene. I think we'll see much of that by Ford in this sequel.

And character piece? I bet it portrays how Indy turns into a crusty old man fantasizing about his younger years, and crapping his adult diaper. Can't you tell I am displeased with Lucas working on this script?

Tell you what, when you make as many fantastic movies as Spielberg, Lucas and Ford then you can decide not to make a fourth in one of your epic trilogies or decide when you've gotten too old to play a role. Until then I'm gonna be excited about this movie and counting the days until you have to eat your words. Viva le Jones!!!!
