Sophia Bush the New "Wonder Woman" Favorite?

Time for a new "Wonder Woman" rumor, fellas! Everyone gather 'round! Fresh-faced hottie Sophia Bush is rumored to be "in the running" for the title role in Joss Whedon's (eventually) upcoming adaptation of the very sexy DC Comics character.

Moviehole.net reports a bit beyond what IESB.net was able to discover: That while spending some time on her press junket for "The Hitcher," Ms. Bush was asked about her involvement on "Wonder Woman," to which she basically answered "Maybe." Which isn't a "no."

Back when Mr. Whedon landed the "WW" gig, he stated that he wanted a fresh newcomer for the career-making super-role, and it seems like Sophia Bush has those qualifications covered. Aside from next weekend's "The Hitcher," Ms. Bush has appeared in "John Tucker Must Die," "Stay Alive," and "Supercross" -- which means she's more than due for a good movie, and soon.

her cumilative RT record is 31%. amazing.

why cant joss whedon just accept that wonderwoman is a great comic book, but a terrible movie concept. Can you imagine how goofy a movie about wonder woman would be. like aquaman. wait. aquaman isnt even a good comic book. nevermind

DC should be focusing on how to bring Green Lantern to the screen. He's one of the best superheros out there, why is there no buzz about this, while crappy superhero movies come out all the time (punisher, daredevil, im sure ghost rider will be crap, etc)

even more odd, GL is portrayed by a number of people in the comics, african american bad asses (denzel?), noble jet pilots (matt damon?), unsure teenagers (orlando bloom?), incredibly hot mamas (angelina jolie?), and cocky ***holes (matthew mcConaughey?), so they need'nt be committed to one star for the whole franchise, ala spiderman or batman... this really baffles me

You are a joke, Punisher was good, Daredevils directors cut was good and Ghost Rider looks great. Just stop talking.

I agree. But let's not bump Wonder Woman yet. It could work. Just look at the great track record of female... ahh. Scratch that. Don't look at the track record. ;-) The sexiness of course is part of her character, but it is merely a characteristic. Let's hope they move beyond that and get the story right. (you know, like we used to wish Santa would swoop in and bring us that bike we secretly asked him for) Else we're looking at another potential godaweful Catwoman clone.

Sophia Bush. Soooo hot! Want to touch the heiney!

Joss has the ability to pull it off. Look at what he did for Buffy on TV. However, he has been running close to empty after Serenity (amazing film!), so this might be a bad idea. His work on Astonishing X-Men does nothing to inspire the warm fuzzy feeling that his current work is top notch.

I hope this does well, because I would love to Joss Whedon get more deserving recognition from Hollywood. Besides, I think they should give Morena Baccarin a look-see about portraying WW. She was great in Firefly.

Morena Baccarin
I love Morena Baccarin too, but recently saw her in an episode of "How I Met Your Mother." Wow did she go on the Hollywood diet or what?!? Another in a long line of "beautiful turned tragically ultra-bony" actresses these days.

WW needs some meat on her bones. Like a young Zeta Jones or a Charisma Carpenter (Angel years).

Wow, this really is rumor day on Tomatoes: she basically answered "Maybe." Which isn't a "no."

Must be a slow news day!

I wonder how many people may or may not be in the running for this role, now that would be a story!

sophia bush is too hot to be wonder woman.

dylan21484nj on 01-8-2007 10:37 PM

Sophia Bush is a hot piece o' ass, but she doesn't have the physical bearings to play Wonder Woman. WW is supposed to be a statuesque Amazonian goddess, not a short little girl.

Jessica Biel in her Blade Trinity/Stealth body would be perfect. But maybe after The Illusionist, her career might be past the silly idea of a WW movie.

LRM8 is right. The more I think about it, the more I think WW is just not movie material. Some superheroes are lame in print but could work in the movies, like Iron Man, and then some superheroes are better left in comics, like WW or Aquaman.

dylan21484nj

dylan21484nj on 01-9-2007 08:45 AM

Biel might have the body, but she just doesn't look like WW. Biel looks too...ahem..."ethnic." i'm not saying she isn't hot, though.

convictscorpion

convictscorpion on 01-10-2007 11:05 AM

By "ethnic" do you mean the ethnicity of white-anglo-saxon?! Jessica Biel looks about as caucasian as you can get... I think you might be thinking of Jessica Alba.

lrm8 on 01-9-2007 06:37 AM

punisher was good? what version did you watch the dolph lungren or the thomas jane one? oh wait, they both sucked...

i have not seen daredevil directors cut, which many people say is a much better film than the regular cut, but the movie i saw did not do the man without fear justice, and im sorry, the CGI for ghost rider looks like a worse Constantine, and we all know nic cage has been trying to do a superhero movie for years, it seems like he just said "**** it, ghost rider is a superhero, why not". Also, ghost rider's director is the guy who wrote the screen plays for such awesome movies as grumpier old men, jack frost, my favorite martian, and he executive produced the worst movie of all time, elektra. nuff said

If Bush bulked up a little bit, I think she could be a good Wonder Woman.

Vitamin M

Vitamin M on 01-9-2007 09:32 AM

The directors cut did not help Daredevil, it was still a crap movie. I especially love how Daredevil gets a shoulder wound and thinks he's dying, meanwhile Elektra get's the crap beat out of her and still is the one crawling to him. anyway Punisher was watchable if not good, and I will wait on Ghost Rider until I see it. The one thing that does seperate Wonder Woman from those super hero films deemd "unworthy" is Joss Whendon. Between Buffy and Firefly, Serenity and the scripting work he's done I think it's a safe bet that no matter how "unfilmable" WW seems, Joss will make an excellent film.

I think Sophia Bush can pull it off if she's picked. I mean, look at old Tobey before the Spiderman films. They can do wonders to people nowadays to make them fit roles. Besides, I love Sophia's figure as it is and can't wait until The Hitcher comes out.

digitalsoul68

digitalsoul68 on 01-9-2007 10:50 AM

Sophie's 5'6". Not very Amazonian. The girl they pick should be at least 6'. Whedon is golden with his writing. the main thing I'm concerned about is the COSTUME. How is the Stripper-Wear suit going to translate on the big screen without looking ridiculous?

My nomination is for Tricia Helfer (Caprica on Battlestar Galactica). She has the height (a little short at 5'10"), but (most imporantly) she has the acting chops.

FireflyFan4evr

FireflyFan4evr on 01-9-2007 11:23 AM

Tricia Helfer is one of the worst actresses on any popular show I have ever seen. She has the acting range of a model turned actress... oh wait, that's exactly what she is.

digitalsoul68

digitalsoul68 on 01-9-2007 11:40 AM

So, then who would YOU pick, Firefly?

dylan21484nj

dylan21484nj on 01-9-2007 04:11 PM

yeah, the costume really needs to be retooled for the movie so it doesn't look quite as silly. i've kinda always wondered why WW would wear star-spangled bottoms when she's an Amazonian. she's not Captain America.

Matanuki

Matanuki on 01-11-2007 03:32 PM

The costume will translate fine if they just don't get shy with it. That's where they F'ed up with Elektra. Sophia's height is a problem, sure, but could be worked out easily with camera tricks. But scratch that all together. I'd rather see them show some guts and hire Monica Bellucci. Now that's Wonder Woman!

Bigbrother

Bigbrother on 01-9-2007 01:17 PM

Morena Baccarin is the only choice for me. I thought the final scene of Serenity when she's all got up with her bow an arrow was the perfect audition for WW. Plus for all you Daredevil haters out there I wonder how you think they could make it better? There was nothing wrong with DD, sure it wasn't Spiderman, but it was never supposed to be AND it did it on a third the budget for effects. Affleck was the bomb as DD.

in a perfect world, rosario dawson. but she probably wouldnt take it, and she's not "unknown"

dylan21484nj

dylan21484nj on 01-9-2007 04:34 PM

Rosario Dawson is hot (loved watching her bounce in Clerks 2, she has a fine rack) and i know race shouldn't matter, but it does. Superman's not black or Hispanic, so there will never be a movie with a black or Hispanic Superman, or at least there shouldn't be if they want to stay true to the character in the comics. Spider-Man's not black or Hispanic or Asian, the same goes for him. yeah, there's a lot of white superheroes and very few of ethnic descent. sorry, thems the breaks. the Wonder Woman character isn't ethnic in the comics, that's just how her character is. you wouldn't go changing Blade or Spawn into a white guy or changing Storm from the X-Men into a white woman, would you? no, that's not who their characters are. they're black and should stay black because that's who they are. on extremely rare occasions, they do change the ethnicity of some of the characters in the comics, but that rarely happens, if at all, to the more popular, major characters, and WW is right up there with Superman and Batman in DC Comics as far as notoriety goes.

i wouldn't mind a star getting this part, but if no stars fit the WW bill, i'm totally fine with an unknown as long as they can portray the character well and remain faithful to the comics.

Bigbrother

Bigbrother on 01-10-2007 08:01 AM

WW is actually Greek and many Greek ladies have dark hair and olive skin like Rosario. Still pulling for Morena though.

Now it's dark

Now it's dark on 01-9-2007 01:41 PM

What's an actors height in real life have to do with anything? Half the stars in Hollywood are midgets. That's why they created apple boxes.

lrm8

lrm8 on 01-9-2007 04:42 PM

rosario dawson, but she'd never take it, unless it was directed by tarantino or something, which will never happen

spawnwest

spawnwest on 01-10-2007 09:29 AM

she's tooooo short.....it doesn't matter....because hollywood is just going to mess up the story anyway

Bigbrother

Bigbrother on 01-10-2007 04:03 PM

As previously stated actual height means nothing in Hollywood. I have faith Whedon can make an interesting story out of this. Probably will piss off a lot of the comics fans because I think to make the movie good he's going to have to go in "non-traditional" directions with it, but I'm not without hope. Plus Linda Carter in that outfit still haunts my dreams, sometimes all you need is good enough eye candy.

Beastmaster77

Beastmaster77 on 01-11-2007 06:53 AM

Sophia Bush may be great looking, but I don't think she has the right look for Wonder Woman. Morena looks a little too thin for me as well. I think Jessica Biel would be perfect for the role because she's got that amazon type build. And how exactly is Jessica Biel considered ethnic?
