Sophia Bush the New "Wonder Woman" Favorite?
by Scott Weinberg | January 08, 2007
Discuss Article
Time for a new "Wonder Woman" rumor, fellas! Everyone gather 'round! Fresh-faced hottie Sophia Bush is rumored to be "in the running" for the title role in Joss Whedon's (eventually) upcoming adaptation of the very sexy DC Comics character.

Moviehole.net reports a bit beyond what IESB.net was able to discover: That while spending some time on her press junket for "The Hitcher," Ms. Bush was asked about her involvement on "Wonder Woman," to which she basically answered "Maybe." Which isn't a "no."

Back when Mr. Whedon landed the "WW" gig, he stated that he wanted a fresh newcomer for the career-making super-role, and it seems like Sophia Bush has those qualifications covered. Aside from next weekend's "The Hitcher," Ms. Bush has appeared in "John Tucker Must Die," "Stay Alive," and "Supercross" -- which means she's more than due for a good movie, and soon.

her cumilative RT record is 31%. amazing.

why cant joss whedon just accept that wonderwoman is a great comic book, but a terrible movie concept. Can you imagine how goofy a movie about wonder woman would be. like aquaman. wait. aquaman isnt even a good comic book. nevermind

DC should be focusing on how to bring Green Lantern to the screen. He's one of the best superheros out there, why is there no buzz about this, while crappy superhero movies come out all the time (punisher, daredevil, im sure ghost rider will be crap, etc)

even more odd, GL is portrayed by a number of people in the comics, african american bad asses (denzel?), noble jet pilots (matt damon?), unsure teenagers (orlando bloom?), incredibly hot mamas (angelina jolie?), and cocky ***holes (matthew mcConaughey?), so they need'nt be committed to one star for the whole franchise, ala spiderman or batman... this really baffles me

I agree. But let's not bump Wonder Woman yet. It could work. Just look at the great track record of female... ahh. Scratch that. Don't look at the track record. ;-) The sexiness of course is part of her character, but it is merely a characteristic. Let's hope they move beyond that and get the story right. (you know, like we used to wish Santa would swoop in and bring us that bike we secretly asked him for) Else we're looking at another potential godaweful Catwoman clone.

Joss has the ability to pull it off. Look at what he did for Buffy on TV. However, he has been running close to empty after Serenity (amazing film!), so this might be a bad idea. His work on Astonishing X-Men does nothing to inspire the warm fuzzy feeling that his current work is top notch.

I hope this does well, because I would love to Joss Whedon get more deserving recognition from Hollywood. Besides, I think they should give Morena Baccarin a look-see about portraying WW. She was great in Firefly.

I love Morena Baccarin too, but recently saw her in an episode of "How I Met Your Mother." Wow did she go on the Hollywood diet or what?!? Another in a long line of "beautiful turned tragically ultra-bony" actresses these days.

WW needs some meat on her bones. Like a young Zeta Jones or a Charisma Carpenter (Angel years).

Wow, this really is rumor day on Tomatoes: she basically answered "Maybe." Which isn't a "no."

Must be a slow news day!

I wonder how many people may or may not be in the running for this role, now that would be a story!

You are a joke, Punisher was good, Daredevils directors cut was good and Ghost Rider looks great. Just stop talking.

Sophia Bush is a hot piece o' ass, but she doesn't have the physical bearings to play Wonder Woman. WW is supposed to be a statuesque Amazonian goddess, not a short little girl.

Jessica Biel in her Blade Trinity/Stealth body would be perfect. But maybe after The Illusionist, her career might be past the silly idea of a WW movie.

LRM8 is right. The more I think about it, the more I think WW is just not movie material. Some superheroes are lame in print but could work in the movies, like Iron Man, and then some superheroes are better left in comics, like WW or Aquaman.

punisher was good? what version did you watch the dolph lungren or the thomas jane one? oh wait, they both sucked...

i have not seen daredevil directors cut, which many people say is a much better film than the regular cut, but the movie i saw did not do the man without fear justice, and im sorry, the CGI for ghost rider looks like a worse Constantine, and we all know nic cage has been trying to do a superhero movie for years, it seems like he just said "**** it, ghost rider is a superhero, why not". Also, ghost rider's director is the guy who wrote the screen plays for such awesome movies as grumpier old men, jack frost, my favorite martian, and he executive produced the worst movie of all time, elektra. nuff said

Biel might have the body, but she just doesn't look like WW. Biel looks too...ahem..."ethnic." i'm not saying she isn't hot, though.

If Bush bulked up a little bit, I think she could be a good Wonder Woman.

The directors cut did not help Daredevil, it was still a crap movie. I especially love how Daredevil gets a shoulder wound and thinks he's dying, meanwhile Elektra get's the crap beat out of her and still is the one crawling to him. anyway Punisher was watchable if not good, and I will wait on Ghost Rider until I see it. The one thing that does seperate Wonder Woman from those super hero films deemd "unworthy" is Joss Whendon. Between Buffy and Firefly, Serenity and the scripting work he's done I think it's a safe bet that no matter how "unfilmable" WW seems, Joss will make an excellent film.

I think Sophia Bush can pull it off if she's picked. I mean, look at old Tobey before the Spiderman films. They can do wonders to people nowadays to make them fit roles. Besides, I love Sophia's figure as it is and can't wait until The Hitcher comes out.

Sophie's 5'6". Not very Amazonian. The girl they pick should be at least 6'. Whedon is golden with his writing. the main thing I'm concerned about is the COSTUME. How is the Stripper-Wear suit going to translate on the big screen without looking ridiculous?

My nomination is for Tricia Helfer (Caprica on Battlestar Galactica). She has the height (a little short at 5'10"), but (most imporantly) she has the acting chops.

Tricia Helfer is one of the worst actresses on any popular show I have ever seen. She has the acting range of a model turned actress... oh wait, that's exactly what she is.
