New Writers (& Director) for "The Mummy 3"
by Scott Weinberg | January 10, 2007
Discuss Article
Yep, looks like Universal is finally about to get off its butt and make a third "Mummy" movie. Though not signed yet, Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are expected to return. And wait till you see who they got to writer and direct the sequel!

Yep, "The Mummy 3," only this time Stephen Sommers isn't directing it. Rob Cohen is! Yep, the guy who did "xXx" and "The Fast and the Furious" must make amends for delivering "Stealth" unto the world, and it looks like he'll be the one in the director's chair for this one.

In screenwriting news, it seems that Alfred Gough and Miles Millar will be penning the new follow-up. Fanboys/girls no doubt recognize those names from "Shanghai Noon," "Spider-Man 2," and (of course) "Smallville."

That's about all we have for this project so far, but rest assured we'll be talking about "The Mummy 3" a whole bunch by the time it hits theaters.

The Mummy was decent mindless entertainment... but do we really need a fourth movie in this series after the atrocious The Scorpion King?

Will the producer from many of those Rob Cohen movies come to do this one? Forgot his name...he's always seem to do a good job, even if the movie is crap...

The Scorpion King, IMO, was its own movie. And, for that, I enjoyed it. I also liked the Mummy films alot.

I liked the Mummy and Returns. Scropion King was a Connan wanna be and it worked. So was king a prequeal? So shouldn't be a mummy four?

i thought the first mummy movie was entertaining enough but the second one sucked ass so i hope this one kindof........you know......makes up for it. It's still not nearly one of my favourite movie series though.

Yea The Mummy was great, I really liked it when I was a kid, The Mummy Returns was entertaining but didn't like it as much and it wasn't scary. Scorpion King felt like an episode of Xena or something, but Rob Cohen is a bad choice though, he's not very creative and he's very cleche

I enjoy the Mummy movies, so I'll be looking forward to this. I'm curious as to how Cohen will do. I'm a big fan of the writers, so that is always a good sign. Just bring back the whole cast and all should be good.

Thank goodness Sommers is not directing. After the putrid "Van Helsing," you couldn't pay me to see one of his movies. Hopefully, the third film will put the franchise to rest. Sequels and remakes are usually the worst things to come out of Hollywood.

The Mummy was very entertaining, but I agree with killermonkey about The Mummy Returns being absolutely terrible. Hopefully the third one will be somewhat decent. I hope they get rid of that kid from the second one. He was incredibly annoying.

I think you're referring to Monkeybone, Chris Kattan's Oscar-winning performance.
