Halle Berry Lobbying for More Storm Time?
by Scott Weinberg | January 12, 2007
Discuss Article
Remember back when everyone thought Halle Berry was refusing to return for "X-Men: The Last Stand" because she wanted more money / screen time? Yeah well, if those reports were accurate ... they're sure not nowadays! Ms. Berry recently asked a (very large) room of fans to start a letter-writing campaign for "X-Men 4"!

According to ComicBookMovie.com, here's what Halle had to say after accepting a People's Choice Award for Favorite Female Action Star: "I have something to ask you guys. You guys really love "X-Men"? Ok, here's what you have to do. Write letters. If every one of you in this building who love "X-Men" and want to see "X-Men 4," write a letter to Tom Rothman at Fox, and tell him so. And you will get another one, and I'll be there too."

C'mon, Berry! You did three X-flicks AND you're an Oscar winner. Move on already! (But if you simply must mail Mr. Rothman a letter, here's the address.)

Regarding future installments, we know that "Magneto" and "Wolverine" are on their way, but where else is this franchise headed? Do YOU guys want more Storm in your "X-Men" sequels?

More Storm
I would love to see more Storm. The problem is, I have yet to see Storm in the first three movies. The poor excuse for X-Men characters that I see on the big screen make me sad.

Some comics should NOT be made into live-action movies, like X-Men and Fantastic Four.

Team comics are tough to fit into 2 hours. Either characterization suffers, action suffers, or pacing suffers. X-Men 2 was about as good as one of these can be.

But now that 3 X-Movies have been out, if the actors don't let egos get in the way, I think even better movies can be made. Certain characters would need to take a back seat for a movie and hope they get more screen time in the next installment. Like Rogue and Cyclops in 3 for instance.

X-Men 4!
Yes make a fourth one, but Berry dosn't need to be in it. She did nothing to make the character her own so to me she could be replaced or Storm left out entirely of the next chapter.

I loved the X-Men movies, but most of the characters got seriously shafted (especially Storm). There's so much more that could be done with the material. It's time to shift the focus to the younger characters and take the story in new directions. And bring back Nightcrawler... please?

Forget this series.

It needs a "batman begins" treatment. I dont' know if animation is a great idea, but hell, I would like to see how rotoscoping translates to an action movie.

Just give Halle Berry a Storm movie so she can have her own way. But when it turns out to be another bomb like Catwoman I can assure you noone will want to hear her pouting.

Oh my God, Halle!!
Storm was a MINOR character in the books. If you had done some freakin' research into the character before you started you would've known this and passed on the role instead of kvetching like a baby. Then maybe we could've gotten an actor who was down for sporting a mohawk and spikes. I'm under this dillusion that she's actually reading this or something.

Please don't misconstrue this as racist because it's not, but what the heck is up with Young Black movie stars after they win an oscar just making atrocious films. Halle Berry-Catwoman, Jamie Foxx- Miami Vice, Cuba Gooding- Boat Trip, Cuba Gooding- Snow Dogs, Cuba Gooding- Pearl Harbor, Cuba Gooding- Radio. Mad props to Denzel however for breaking the trend. Stay strong D, that new Jessica Simpson movie will do fine without you.

Storm isn't a minor character. When I read them in the late 80's she was the leader of the X-Men 'cause the original X-Men were in X-Factor and Wolverine was too crazy.

Sure, X4. Bring back Bryan Singer and Alan Cumming and we have a deal. Neither of them are doing anything good, right?

Regardless of whether Storm is supposed to be more or less relevant a character than she has been in the movies, Halle's performance in X-3 irritated me more than anything else in it. Sure the writing was bad, the plot wasn't handled well, and the characters were poorly fleshed-out. But it was her pretentious "LOOK AT ME" behavior that got on my nerves.

Storm was only cool twenty years ago when she had no powers and a mohawk. Ya think Halle would get a mohawk?

If you guys think Storm sucked in the X-Men films, I can assure you it wasn't because of Halle Berry, whether you agree or not. She did great. Besides, I enjoyed Storm in the films. I just wish she got a chance to kick more arse. I really hope they do come out with an X-Men 4 as all of the films so far have been enjoyable, especially The Last Stand, which, I for one, enjoyed the best.

Indeed, liono86. The problems with Storm in the X-Men films were story problems, not Berry problems. I'm not sure why Hally Berry became everybody's favorite hate toy, but that train can go ride right off the cliff.

Good point to those who say that Berry isn't to blame for Storms live screen inadequacies... she isn't. That would be the producers, writers, and directer... (yes, Singer... he's a good director... but...) who decided to make Storm weaker as a character when she was not that was in the comics. They didn't stop there... look at some of the other liberties they took... like Rogue actually being near human as opposed to super strong... and Mystique waering nothing at all (most fanboys love that...) as opposed to her trademark "attire" complete with mini skull. To the person who said she was a MINOR character... um, if I'm not mistaken, every character in the X-Men universe has had moments where they have been minor and moments where they have been the back bone to the team...
