Producer Thinks Naomi Watts is for "The Birds"
by Fred Topel | January 15, 2007
Discuss Article
It's remake heaven. Platinum Dunes producer Brad Fuller has his sights on adding "The Birds" to his slate -- which already includes "The Hitcher," "Texas Chainsaw Massacre," "Amityville Horror" and "Friday the 13th." And "King Kong" remake veteran Naomi Watts is his first pick for the Tippi Hedren role.

"No actor or actress is going to commit to anything without a script," said Fuller. "We’ve sat down with her and conceptually I think we all want to make the same movie, but until we have a script and a director, I think it’s a little premature. But, we’ll all talking and she’s who we’d like to have as the lead."

There's no deadline for making art, but Fuller hopes to have a solid enough draft soon to get Watts to commit. "In the next two weeks, or the next week or so I think they’ll announce it because they’re starting to talk about a new writer to come on and write that. It definitely feels like it’s moving."

Just cast her, give her a best actress nominee and give her the award.
Damn it she deserves one by now.

Best Actress Nom...Why? She was way overrated in 21 Grams, as the movie itself was. What else movie would there be for her to maybe have gotten one? King Kong? So, has she deserved one up to this point? No.

She could have gotten one from Mulholland Dr. She wasn't nominated, but she was pretty amazing it.

Honestly, I'm less worried about Naomi Watts then I am about this horrible Producer.

What a great idea! This will probably put her over the top the way the 1998 remake of "Psycho" did for Anne Heche! Bay, Fuller, and Platinum Dunes are a fountain of brilliant ideas! When does "The Island" come out on DVD? It is?!

How bout they forget about The Birds and do a LOTR remake, and a Little Man remake, and a Just Friends remake?

This is a Hitchcock film and I can only think of Hitchcock when you mention the Birds. He was able to pull it off because he was Hitchcock. To remake this thing today using CGI birds flying around pecking people to death doesn't warrant awe in my mind. This could be very bad and even laughable. Naomi Watts is a good actress but this idea I just don't see working with todays audiences.

NOOOOOOOOOO, don't touch just friends it's a classic. if they want to do a remake, trhen do old movies that sucked and improve them. movies like godfather or dr strangelove (both with robin williams and steve martin in the lead roles)

I'm curious. At what point does someone see a Hitchcock film and think, "That's crap. I can do better."?????

I have a wild idea, let's make a new movie based on an original idea!

No wait, it'll never work.

Brad Fuller; this generation's Ed Wood. No, that's an insult to Ed Woods since unliike Fuller, he at least tried to be orginal and never considered himself to be even in the same profession as Hitchcock.

Sometime after the point someone else sees "the cabinet of dr. caligari" and thinks "thats crap, i can do better", which someone did say and then set out to do. with today's know it all producers and directors no classic is safe anymore.

come on, a godfather with robin williams as vito and steve martin as micheal at least makes the movie funny. the godfather was totally unfunny!!! probably the worst action flick i've ever seen aside from dr strangelove. these movies are ready to be remade by hollywood in style. heck i don't even mind if they do an all girl version of the godfather with julia roberts and lindsey lohan.
