"Indy 4" Screenwriter Says Movie Will Address Ford's Age
Screenwriter David Koepp recently spoke with IGN Movies about what -- loosely speaking -- fans can expect from the upcoming, long-awaited fourth installment in the "Indiana Jones" series.
Koepp was careful not to divulge any spoilers, but he did take pains to temper fans' expectations, pointing out that "A lot of people are going to be angry no matter what I do."

Ford and Connery in "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade"
Those who were disappointed after Frank Darabont's screenplay was rejected -- or who are simply wary of George Lucas' script veto power -- may be leery after reading Koepp's comments, but he makes it clear that he's steering clear of campy references to adventures past, and says Indy's age won't be glossed over. Get out your bullwhips!

puablo writes: on Jan 19 2007 03:09 PM I'm sure they can adeptly handle the age thing. Provided they don't spend too much time on it, such as more than one utterance of "I'm getting too old for this" (0 would be preferable). As long as they simply make a good movie like the other 3 (anything on the order of Last Crusade would be great) his age won't matter. (Reply to this) |

gratefuldawg writes: on Jan 19 2007 03:18 PM Why is age such an issue ? We know he's old; move on. That's like focusing an entire film on Superman's uncanny likeness to Jesus or how Darth Vader as a child became Darth Vader. Oh Yeah ! That's right..both scenario's have already been filmed and completely destroyed the character. (Reply to this) |

If it's "Returns" I thought their were much more obvious parallels to Greek mythology. If you're going off the Savior angle that's always been inherent to the character and lets not forget Superman was invented by two Jewish guys. Not exactly Tolkien or C.S. Lewis. (Reply to this) |

TheIceGhost writes: on Jan 19 2007 09:06 PM In reply to this comment (#853418) Superman looks like Jesus? That's news to me. Also, I love the concept of Vader being a victim instead of a villian. To me, the prequels make the originals better films simply because everything they now say has more depth and meaning. I'll never shake how much different Vader looked to me after popping in A New Hope post-Episode III, and that sir, is a good thing (..to me). On the Indy front I simply say...."well duh-why is this news?" (Reply to this) |

gratefuldawg writes: on Jan 20 2007 08:30 AM I wasnt exactly calling Superman "Jesus" just sarcastically pointing the obvious parallels between them in the storyline of 'Returns' and how such a focus on the character ruined the film/franchise. It could also apply to Greek mythology as well. But what I was trying to say is that to outright explore or explain newly developed history behind the traits an iconic character, you loose something in its own mythology. This doesnt really apply to Indy, but Koepps comments reminded me of previous remarks made by other filmmakers/ screenwriters on the verge of returning characters; i.e. "Superman Returns" & "Star Wars" (Reply to this) |

Mr. K writes: on Jan 21 2007 12:59 AM Ford's gonna be around for awhile. I'm more worried about the aging John Williams. The guy is 70+. Thank God he was still around and had the energy to finish the Star Wars movies (say what you will about the prequels- JW's scores kicked arse!). Can't accept Indy w/out Williams' music...stay with us, JW!!! (Reply to this) |

Bigbrother writes: on Jan 21 2007 04:28 AM In reply to this comment (#853425) hmmm an interesting point, just not sure I see the obvious parallels you're talking about except of course like I said "the Savior" angle which has always been a part of the series since it's early incarnations. As for the Greek myth thing superheroes have always drawn parallels with figures from Greek Myth nothing new there. I for one really enjoyed the Greek myth iconic imagery of Returns. Superman hovering in the sky like Zues listening to all the world problems, The Atlas image with him balancing the Daily Planets world on his shoulders, Luthors Prometheus explanation for why he's evil, even the Janus aspect of Superman, farm-Clark and reporter-Clark. You'll be hard pressed to find any work today even some that are lauded as totally original that doesn't draw inspiration from an older work. I like what Singer has said so far about the next one being more action based though, I just hope they don't gradually drive the franchise into the ground like they did with the previous series or ala the Joel Shumacher series Batman. Sorry I kinda got away from the forum's Indy focus, but just kinda got on a role there. (Reply to this) |

Bigbrother writes: on Jan 21 2007 04:31 AM In reply to this comment (#853427) They have the original theme song, for my money they don't need much else. As long as I get the hear that when an action sequence kicks in I'm happy. Totally agree with you though their is no substitute for John Williams when it comes to movie scores. Genius nuff said.
