The "Hitman" Claims a Release Date
Fox's game-to-movie adaptation "Hitman" aims to hit theaters in October of this year ... but the flick doesn't go into production until this April. Raise your hand if you think this one will get bumped back to next February.
According to IGN Movies, 10/12 is the release date. Leading man Timothy Olyphant will star as "Agent 47" -- and yes, he's a hitman. Based on the popular Eidos games, the movie will be directed by Frenchman Xavier Gens, from a screenplay by "Swordfish" scribe Skip Woods. As he does with virtually every movie made by a French person, Luc Besson will act as producer.
If I'd ever played any of the "Hitman" games, I'd be better equipped to offer a plot synopsis, but if it's an action flick about a professional assassin, then it's a movie I want to see. IGN promises more casting news soon.

on Feb 13 2007 08:50 AM humm... I like where this is going... but you can always count on Fox to f**k up. I bet Fox pushes for a Pg-13 rating, with a rushed product just to make a quick buck off the "Hitman" property. hopefully with Besson being involved, that doesnt happen. (Reply to this) |

on Feb 13 2007 08:55 AM I thought Jason Statham was playing this dude. Olyphant is a good choice too, though. (Reply to this) |

on Feb 13 2007 09:48 AM I read the screenplay this summer when I interned for the Weinstein Company and it really got me excited. I had never played the games before either. When Vin Diesel was attached I gave up but now things are looking up again. I have a feeling, if this is done right, people are really going to enjoy this film. (Reply to this) |

on Feb 13 2007 09:25 PM As long as Jesper Kyd does the music, I'm sold. I think this will be the kind of movie fans of the game are going to love, while non fans will just consider it an adequate action movie. Fortunately for me, I'm a fan of the game series. I just hope they don't go to nutty with explosions or anything. My favorite thing about the Hitman games are the subtle, often creative kills. If they go John Woo with 47, I'm gonna be pissed.
