Adrien Brody in the Running for "Hulk" Sequel?
by Scott Weinberg | February 13, 2007
Discuss Article
It's just another piece of casting gossip at this point, but I found it amusing enough to spread around. How would you Marvel maniacs feel about Adrien Brody as Bruce Banner in the "Hulk" sequel?

Record set straight: The lead for Louis Leterrier's "The Incredible Hulk" has NOT been cast, but IGN Movies caught wind of the rumor (from AICN), which brings us to the question:

Adrien Brody? "The Pianist"? "The Jacket" wearer? The guy who semi-foiled "King Kong"? Hmm. At first thought, I considered it a ridiculous casting choice. But y'know... Bulk the guy up just a little and I bet he could pull it off.

So who the heck would YOU cast as Bruce Banner? (Off the top of my head, I'd say ... Nicky Katt. Why the heck not?)

After thinking about it a while it doesn't seem like a bad choice. Like Scott said, he'd have to hit the gym, but as long as there's more than ten minutes of action in this one, unlike the last one, it should be entertaining.

Is it even possible to bulk Brody up? Some men just can't bulk up. But then again, this is a physically transforming superhero, not someone with the same physique while incognito. Like say Clark Kent or Bruce Wayne.

I'd rather see Eric Bana come back but given the dismal BO of the first film I don't see it happening

Yeah, I'm with insanemansam, I'd like to see Eric Bana come back.

I still don't think Brody would be a good choice, let Bana come back.

He wouldn't need to bulk up. Bruce Banner is supposed to be a scientist, not an athlete.

Brody is a good choice. He's a great character actor, which is exactly what we need. Especially now that this sequel is going to be a mindless smash fest, we're going to need the best actors to keep it interesting. Although I'd prefer to have Bana back for continuity's sake.

My Vote
Simon Pegg as the Hulk.

Nick Frost as the Reporter.

Directed by Edgar Wright.

Yeah, Banner is supposed to be a puny, nerdy scientist. That's the whole point of the character-- he's NOT a physical, athletic male and he has to become the Hulk when he gets so frustrated at his inability to solve his problems. That's exactly why someone like Bana is dead wrong for the role. At least this gives me some confidence that the producers actually understand the character, and are looking to be more true to it this time around.

Did someone say puny and nerdy? This looks like a job for Superman ... No wait, I meant Nicholas Cage!

As long as he doesn't get pigeon holed back into his staring blankly into the camera role from "a thin red line" I think he'd be a good choice for puny banner. Pianist SMASH!!!!

Just bring Bana back. Geezus, the original wasn't that bad.

Katt was great in Dazed and Confused - he only came for two reasons -- and he is just about out of beer.

Brody might do better as a bad guy. He's not really done anything like that yet. I thought he would have been perfect for the Joker in the new Batman. I'd like to see Bana back in action with a slightly less arty director. If not, then I'm with CFM on this one, except Nick Frost as Banner and Pegg as Abomination.

Brody's schnoz is too big; there, I said it. You can call me a nose-bigot if you want.

Yes it the Bana movie was awful---IMO probably one of the worst movies of all time. When the best part of a movie is a giant mutated Poodle than you have a problem.....

WHA? You must have missed Wing Commander, Elektra, Ishtar, Charlie's Angels (either one), Garfield, Catwoman, Batman & Robin, Battlefield Earth, Harry and the Hendersons....shall I go on? Hulk, while dissapointing to some, was hardly on par with those movies.
