"Mummy" Writer Fills in Some Sequel Blanks for Us
by Scott Weinberg | February 28, 2007
Blog Article | Discuss Article
First we heard that Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz would be asked back for "The Mummy 3," but then came word that the sequel would focus on the exploits of their now-grown son. Well, it looks like both are actually the case.

In an interview between iFMagazine and screenwriter Alfred Gough, the following details were revealed:

1. Not set in Egypt.

2. Doesn't deal with Im-Ho-Tep at all.

3. "The plan is to bring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz back."

4. Along with his writing partner Miles Millar, Gough worked on the "Mummy 3" story alongside series creator Stephen Sommers.

5. Yes, the movie is still to be directed by Rob Cohen.

Well, at least Weisz and Fraser are returning. Otherwise it would just be stupid.

I hate the idea of the kid though.

I hated the idea of the kid at first. I'm pulling back from that hate a bit; if it's done right than the kid COULD work. Still keep Fraser the focus, but make the 'grown kid' his partner or something, it could work...

Is it still set in the Middle East? If not, I bet it's either going to be set in a jungle somewhere, or China (..Japan, Korea, somewhere with an Asian accent).

With all the Jet Li casting rumors I'm betting China and as long as they hire a different actor to play the kid it could work. As long as they don't hire Shia LeBouef that is.

No...they just need to leave this franchise alone. i really hope rachel weisz doesnt return, it will kill her career. plus hiw old is the kid going to be anyway...its not like the movie is that old.

If the kid is similar to young Indiana Jones (i.e. River Phoenix) in 'Last Crusade' then I'm all for it.
