Producer Talks "Transformers," "G.I. Joe" & "Beverly Hills Cop 4"
by Scott Weinberg | March 08, 2007
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura has been absolutely everywhere these days, hyping his new Mark Wahlberg action flick "Shooter" to everyone with some bandwidth. When he sat down with Latino Review, he doled out a little info on movies like "G.I. Joe," "Transformers" (of course), and even the next "Beverly Hills Cop" sequel.

Regarding this summer's "Transformers," the shooting is done but there's still a whole lot of magic yet to be spun in the FX labs. Budget discussions were deftly avoided, and then we learned that the "Bumblebee Camaro" was the only full-size robot created for the flick.

Regarding the long-discussed "G.I. Joe" movie, Lorezno DB mentioned that Skip Woods is presently writing the script, and he's a screenwriter you might remember from a movie called "Swordfish." (He's also been doing some work on "Live Free or Die Hard," apparently.) The producer goes into a rather long and geeky rant about Joe this and Alex Mann that before admitting that, yeah, those old Cobra villains sure were stupid. Doesn't look like "G.I. Joe" is going to get started anytime real soon, but it certainly will be happening.

And then we get to a few words on "Beverly Hills Cop 4." Seems that Eddie Murphy is the one who spoke up this time, and he'll probably be doing this sequel as soon as he's finished on his next two projects (which I believe are "Starhip Dave" and a flick he's doing with Chris Rock). If Lorenzo has his way, actors like Judge Reinhold won't be back for a fourth visit; he wants this one to be Axel Foley all the way.

Those cobra guys were stupid, what are they going to have a GI Joe movie without Cobra? Then what is the point of using the GI Joe franchise, I mean come on, no Cobra Commander, Serpentor, Destro, The Baroness, Major Blood, Tomaz and Zamot, that guy who turned blue in the sun. Those villiams were so much cooler than what they will probably do, which is make some Al-queada wanna be group and make GI Joe just your fun of the mill special forces unit movie.

I just watched Norbit, I dont think I can ever watch Eddie Murphy again. It was so horrible! AHHHHHHHH my eye's.
Yes, it would be just like Hollywood Doosh bags to put some Al-queada type baddies in a GI Joe movie!

That's exactly the impression I get.
It just seems disrespectful to throw out one half of the concept like that!

ts all about the money.

Actually Beverly Hills Cop 3 sucked. The first 2 were great, but the 3rd one was just terrible. I hope they can at least do better than the last one, because i love the character.

Wow! It really sounds like they are going to DESTROY the GI Joe movie. He thinks COBRA are the stupidest villains ever? Yeah, maybe Serpantor was dumb but COBRA was half of the show. It would be like making Transformers with only the Autobots and no Decepticons. Without COBRA, GI Joe becomes something completely different. He also has a problem with Snake Eyes? Ins't Snake Eyes pretty much everyone's favorite character? I don't understand why this guy is responsible for making this movie. Why make the movie if you don't like the property?

Eddie Murphy.... Dreamgirls..... Norbit.... STARSHIP DAVE?!?!? What the hell is that? NO JUDGE?!?!?!? What the hell is that? NO COBRA!?!??! What the hell is that? Transformers?!?!?!? I know what that is, but don't care. This guy is killing me. Thanks Scott for not bothering to spell his name out (or right) the second time you mention him. He does not deserve the grace.

Combine the two concepts into "Beverly Hills Cobra," where Eddie pairs up with Samuel Jackson to stop a terrorist organization from unleashing venomous snakes into designer boutiques and trendy restaurants.

"Like, omg! There's like, a snake in my Gucci!"
"That's so 2006."

There's already a G.I. Joe movie. It's called STREET FIGHTER. When they made that horrendous SF movie they tide SF with G.I. Joe and had cross merchandise of shit like a Ryu and Cobra pack. But anyway, a G.I. Joe movie sounds dumb as hell and is obviously a product of the new way to make films; UNORIGINALLY. Fuck G.I Joe and fuck Voltron. Everything doesnt deserve, or fit into being turned into a film. They've been doing this shit for the past 12 years now. Make up some new stuff. Damn.
