"Spider-Man" Will Go On Without Tobey Maguire
by Scott Weinberg | March 09, 2007
Discuss Article
They're not even done constructing all the "Spider-Man 3" footage into an actual movie yet, but that won't stop the astute movie-geek interviewers from asking Avi Arad about if and when we can expect a "Spider-Man 4."

Just a few days ago Tobey Maguire claimed that he was pretty much done with the "Spider-Man" series, but producer Avi Arad doesn't seem to feel that way. Here's what he told IGN Movies: "No, never conclusions. This story has been going on a long time and it will continue going. There's some issues that will come not to an end but to a conclusion, but Peter Parker's story will continue forward. He's still young. The love story will always be the ruling thing in his life. It's always about the girl so, no, it's just number three."

And when asked about reports that David Koepp would be returning to the series for "Part 4," the canny producer didn't deny anything, but simply stated that it's a bit too early to be discussing these things.

"Spider-Man 3" opens on May 4th.

While I don't like the idea of the series continuing with different cast members, the key thing is that Raimi stays on. I think if Raimi announces that he will continue directing, we might even see Tobey change his mind. What we need is a HUGE petition for the two of them to keep going with this one.

He actually uses Steve Martin's penis cream. It will be advertised in the movie.

Well of course there will be a fourth one. Just like there will definitely be a sequel to the Dark Knight. These movies will make money, regardless of the tomatometer, and will try and make more to get more money.

You think so? Basically they'll have to pull a bond, new spiderman actor, new director...but Spider-man costs twice as much as Bond to make. Sounds risky to me, especially after what happened to Batman in the 90's.

They'll make more. I wouldn't mind a re-imagining sometime in the future. It'd be fun to see some other director's interpretation of the Spiderman mythology. But, it can't be Bay, Uwe Boll or any other person who will just hack it up. I'd say try and get James Cameron, he was into it earlier

I'd rather Sam Raimi move on and do something else. I like the Spiderman movies but I think Raimi needs to use his talents on a different movie now maybe even another horror movie.

I knew it. I knew fuck, Spider man is way too big, monumental. it's not right to stop there. I'm guessing It's goin to turn into a franchise.

it would be sad though if tobey says really goodbye.

Yah, I can see Spider-Man becoming the next Bond. Actually, as much as I absolutely hate to say it, it may work out well, so long as JK Simmons reprises the role of Jameson. I also believe that they're gonna really push this whole, "End of the original series thing," because lets face it, more people will go to see it more often if they think it's the end. I think after the film has been successful and people have raked in millions and millions and then some more millions, you'll hear a few tunes begin to change. Also, I hate to say it, but Jake Gyllenhal looks and sounds just like Toby Maguire. Heck, a little makeup and we may not even notice the difference. I like Toby more than Jake, but I like Spider-Man better than I like Toby. I'm just gonna wait to judge 3 before I decided how much I want 4 or 5 or 6.

yeah..because I'm sure they have NO idea there are millions of fan boys who would want to see more spider-man...
it's not like tobey doesn't think people want more spider-man movies, it's that he's done making them. maybe he wants to do something else, and all to him.

Greedy bastards, just give us a knockout third chapter and then keep the series as a respectable trilogy.

There's no way I'll be seeing a fourth film without Raimi/Maguire

Do you think spiderman retires at the ripe age of 19? You have to have more movies. It's fucking SPIDERMAN!!

Well, good luck with that. The rest of us will just be over here in line for Spiderman 4. Seriously though why shouldn't they do a 4th. It's not like there's an absence of material to make a 4th. People will obviously still have an appetite for it, and really there is no one in the current cast who's irreplaceable. No one has jumped out at me as a character like say Harrison Ford as Han Solo or Tom Cruise as Maverick.

Oh Yeah, and the profits those "greedy bastards" make off these additional big budget movies are what allow about 10 smaller market nitch indie films to be made which will be artistically great but generate absolutely no profit. Welcome to the business of cinema.

gyllenhall would be a terrible choice to be the next spiderman. plus he would never do it. they need to bring a no named actor into it so it will more about the character and not about the actor playing him. that is why they used toby in the first place.

What do you mean he wouldn't do it? It was practically suited up for Number 2 before Tobey was well enough to go.

Maguire's just waiting for them to back up a truck full of cash to his door. He pulled the same stunt before the second one, and it almost cost him the job. I think his bluff will be called again, and we'll see a new actor next movie.

Spiderman 4 without Maguire...I can do that. Spiderman 4 without Raimi....now that's where I draw the line. He has continually said he would stay on if the story is good and makes sense for the characters, so if he leaves that pretty much means he doesn't want to be associated with the script.
