From "The Jackie Chan/Jet Li Project" to "King of Kung Fu"?

First, the good news: According to MonkeyPeaches.com, the forthcoming Jackie Chan/Jet Li project has a title. The bad news? That title is "King of Kung Fu."

Okay, so it's only the Chinese title at this point, but still -- "King of Kung Fu"?

Don't lose faith yet, martial arts epic fans: Yuen Woo-ping has signed on as action director for the $70 million project, which will find Chan and Li donning both ancient and modern costumes, and which begins filming May 7 in Beijing.

According to reports, the story will be adapted from the Chinese legend of the monkey king, with Chan as a monk named T'sa-Ho and Li pulling double duty as the monkey king and a silent monk.

I think Tony Jaa movies are cheesy. Some of his stunts are cool but the fight scenes are repetitive and stupid stuff happens. Come on, throwing elephants?

I actually thought The Protector was much better than Ong Bak, especially that single-shot fight scene fight scene in the building where he's going after the main bad guy. Classic stuff.

I'm willing to bet that that $70 million alone was just for getting Li and Chan together in this movie. No money was spent on anything else, even the title apparently.

THAT'S what I'm thinkin. Who gives a flying @#$% what the name is, the title page will be only for a second. The awesome action will be what makes the movie, not the title.

Well, let's just say there is a wealth of quality movies from Jackie's early days and Hong Kong/Asian set films where most western audiences have not seen Jackie's more intense roles/movies. Remember, these are actors ultimately but still highly well-choreographed and entertaining is the utmost concern. So no worries guys...it will be entertaining regardless...I just am excited about seeing new roles for the guys to be playing where we get to see both J's in a new way. That's all I hope for, to make an action movie well that's just rare these days and not easy to pump out the more hardcore, realistic sort rather than the wire-fu which is perhaps more manageable with the right budget. Like Jaa, though his movies are cool and fun...I bet it takes more time and energy to invent and come up with new and exciting ways to entertain us while movies like the Forbidden Kingdom allow us to see something slightly new and unique (at least in presentation/story-telling or the novelty of seeing both Jackie and Jet on-screen for the first time) which is still an exciting prospect. Just don't believe the hype...I think the fact is the concern for the backlash from China and Asian fans of the original works i.e. Journey to the West, which is highly popular in China and Asian countries for the legendary story of the Monkey King and the quest the monkey and crew take...it's the inspiration for such shows as Dragon Ball Z and such...so definitely neither J want to be backlashed for being a part of something perhaps so akin to heresy in said native countries...haha seriously, it's ridiculous what traditionalists will say so yeah..."In our defense..." haha...I believe the story will still be visually and narratively entertaining despite what anyone says...the quality is for the individual to say anyhow...if your a fan of either J then you'll enjoy it no matter what...this film is for you and is a suitable alternative for families who want to enjoy a nice quality "fantasy" film...every now and then it's good to indulge in a friendly family film like this...I thought it was cool to be hardcore and all but still found myself to enjoy such fare as Bridge to Terabithia even though I also enjoy the Protector and Fatal Contact...it's about personal enjoyment guys...no need to defend, be it for or against anything...just find something that you'll enjoy, mmmmkay? Jeez guys...no need to be "Well my opinion is the truth..." Just enjoy yourselves...have fun and see what else productive y'all can do...perhaps a wee more positive? haha...divert your energies into those sorts of endeavors and guarantee you'll gain more positive feedback...genuine, heart-felt replies...so we'll see how that goes...take care and g' luck
