Cate Blanchett Joins "Indy 4" Cast
by Jeff Giles | March 16, 2007
Discuss Article
She tends to focus on artsier films, but Cate Blanchett isn't afraid to roll up her sleeves and star in a good old-fashioned popcorn flick; to prove it, she's just signed on to star opposite Harrison Ford in "Indiana Jones IV," ostensibly the final installment in one of the most successful thrill rides in cinematic history.

The film's screenplay is being kept under wraps, so there aren't any details about the character Blanchett will be playing, but according to the Hollywood Reporter, it'll be a starring role.

Blanchett in "Babel"

First, however, she'll reprise her queenly role in the sequel to "Elizabeth," "The Golden Age," star with Brad Pitt in David Fincher's "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" and provide voicework for Wes Anderson's "The Fantastic Mr. Fox." "Indiana Jones IV" -- which, as of this very moment, does not star Shia LaBeouf -- is scheduled for a May 23, 2008 release.

Simply Awesome
There could not be a more perfect choice for this role. Blanchett has the perfect look and presence for an Indiana Jones film, plus she has the physical stature to make a real contribution to the action in the film. Her role will definitly be beyond that of a love-interest. I can forsee her having the same stronge presence Karen Allen did in "Raiders", I cannot wait for this sequel to finally arrive.

Maybe it'll be set in the Australian outback and she'll finally get a chance to speak with her native Aussie accent.

she's in everything! I'm getting a bit sick of it. She's a teriffic actress don't get me wrong, is there no one else in her neighbourhood of acting skill. I guess it all depends on who she's playing in the film... I guess I'm still bitter at her beating Virginia Madsen for Supporting Actress...

First Shia LeBouef is out and now Cate Blanchett is in...if someone tells me Harrison Ford discovered a fountain of youth in his back yard this could very well qualify as best movie news week ever.

I could see her doing this. She could play a similar role to something that Allison Doody did in "Last Crusade".
