Will Boss Maroni Play a Big Part in "The Dark Knight"?
by Scott Weinberg | March 20, 2007
Discuss Article
We're getting some conflicting reports on this one, but if it's got something to do with the "Batman Begins" sequel, I know it's something worth sharing. Fans of the comic book may be happy to learn that a character called "Boss Maroni" may play a major role in Bat's next adventure.

Old-school bat-fans will remember that Boss Maroni is a gangster who threw acid in the face of Gotham City District Attorney Harvey Dent, thereby creating a villain known as Two-Face. And since we already know that Aaron Eckhart has been cast as Dent, it only makes sense that the character's origin story would remain intact.

According to a pair of sources, the character might be played be either James Gandolfini or Alan Dale ... or maybe someone else. Nobody knows for sure at this point. But, as always, stuff like this is great fun to speculate about. Director Christopher Nolan reportedly wants to make Maroni's role a little larger, which would lead one to believe that an actor as big as, say, James Gandolfini would land the role. More news as we get it.

Beautiful!
See, the news just keeps getting better and better for the Dark Knight! My anticipation climbs by the minute. Gandolfini would be perfect. But it's a dream casting, so one is well advised to hold back a little on the excitement. It's nice to see that they aren't putting it on the Joker. With as well as they're doing so far with everything else, it would come off like a lazy contrivance if the rumor of Joker throwing the acid late in the Knight or during the opening of the second sequel were to be put into practice. That said, Maroni's entrance into the fold is mighty welcome.

My hope is that they'll end The Dark Knight similar to Batman Begins, with another villain slowly surfacing, opening up for another sequel. I think most comic book movies have super villains come in order of their popularity, in this case -- R.A.G, Joker, and then Two-Face.

Rupert Thorne Anyone and Dr. Strange?
I always thought Rupert Thorne would make a great Mob Boss Movie Tie In. I liked him in the Comics and the Cartoon. As well as Victor Strange. I know he was in the Animated Series one time and the Comics.

I think he meant that this series is going against the grain a bit and more or less sticking with the chronological order of villains. I honestly think that they should have saved the Joker for last (If it ended up being a trilogy), kinda the way Raimi has saved Venom for the (supposedly) last movie.

Which reminds me i had a really wierd dream about Venom last night, he was chasing me through the Barrens but i was a Blood Elf Rogue and i stealthed out and came around and backstabbed his ass.

I would rather see someone else as the gangster.....Gandolfini is awesome, but he is too much Tony Soprano. I don't think they would make that mistake. I would actually love to see the actor who plays Pauley in the Sopranos play Maroni. This movie is going to rule!!!!

Bring on Tony Soprano! lol jk. Gandolfini is an amazing actor, but it's hard for him to land a decent role in films due to his enormous success on T.V.

I hope it works out for him, he's one of my favourite actors.

It'll be a type cast that works in his favor. Why not be apart of a great franchise like this?

Yeah! Bring on Jim Robinson!

His American accent is still dodgy if you ask me.
